Motor Voter2

Drive through voting
  (+2)

  [vote for,
against]

The phrase long used to be used for registering to vote as you get your driver license.

The pandemic is having a huge impact on US elections, with primaries and now the Democratic Convention being postponed. Well, it seems if every franchise restaurant is going drive through, it seems we should be able to let people vote in a drive through, without impacting poll workers or voters.

-- as an aside, I've been speculating that the Democratic Party will use the inability to run primaries and a convention to make sure that neither Sanders nor Biden are the nominee. But we'll see

Yes, but look on the bright side; at least democracy isn't affected in any way ....

The idea of drive-through voting is in itself entirely reasonable, if voter identification issues can be resolved. ATMs could be reprogrammed to handle it - they're fairly secure, as they already deal with something important (dispensing money) so something trivial like voting is easy to add on.

you'd need to verify their's only one person in the car, and I'd look to put something on the touch screen in the car or phone (from a local wifi) so you don't touch common surfaces, which actually is super bad about ATMs -- or even simply fill out and drop a paper ballot in a slot

       Why ?

// put something on the touch screen in the car or phone (from a local wifi) so you don't touch common surfaces, //

Put a box of gloves on a stand by the entry, rig CCTV so no-one helps themselves to more than a couple.

So Vinny can't sit next to you and tell you how to vote (and be able to verify it)

If Vinnie is set on making you vote a certain way, Vinnie will achieve that - for example, by making you record your actions in a voting booth with your phone, and making your life singularly unpleasant if your level of compliance falls below the mandated value,

At least, that's how we do it. Other coercive methods are available. Ask your ER doctor if psychotropic drugs, electric shock and waterboarding are right for you.

If you're at an ATM with a hostile passenger, they are much more likely to be interested in your bank balance than your voting intentions ...

Yes to that part; after some decades working in the software trade, I'm a big fan of paper ballots.
