Motion sensing sprinklers

Hose down that dog!

I have been pondering the dilemma of early morning canine visitors and thier lawnly deposits. What to do (so to speak?). Fishrat's wind whistle proposition shows this a matter which must be addressed now.

If you are out on your lawn when a burgeoning visitor strolls up, the solution is simple: shoot him with the hose. It occurs to me that a similar solutiion could be accomplished with a motion sensor (like those used for lights) and your automatic sprinkler system. When a dog (or other large entity) comes onto the lawn, up come the sprinklers. Hopefully these are pointed only at the lawn to conserve water - this would avoid sprinkling the mailman etc. No dog can abide being sprinkled, and he will leave for dryer pastures.

Is it just me or are the animals in [Helium]'s link photoshoped in?

Heh. Yes, and in the most unconvincing manner.

I think I'd like this idea more if the motion sensing function could also be reversed so that, as people and animals move across the lawn, each sprinkler would shut off as they passed through that sprinkler's zone.

Gee,[BrauBeaton], you could have at least given [Helium] some credit for having cited almost a full day earlier the same product you just linked, even though your graphics are somewhat easier to read and recognize as "photoshopped".

I have one of these (by Hozelock in the UK). They're very good. We had a problem with cats using our garden as a litter tray. The device can also be used to keep herons away from your prized carp or other garden fish.

The most fun to be had is when little relatives come to visit. Once they're over the initial shock, it becomes a game to trigger it and run away.

My dog loves playing in sprinklers. She gets excited and runs in circles barking. This helps her prepare for a dump. There's always one eh?
