A pusbutton doorbell with an elaborately styled bellpush based on imagery of the Black Land.
For each visitor, only the first press is registered. Subsequent presses are ignored by the control unit, ensuring that the there is only ever One Ring.
There is no "OFF" switch. To deactivate, throw entire
assembly into an active volcano.

You want me to transfer the bun you got - for that One - in the other post, to here ? :D |
No need, please leave space for the deluge of croissants that others will shortly bestow... |
To be fair, I thought that was funny. I know, I'm easily
amused. |
Well, the standards here are not high to begin with, so no real need to apologize. |
Surely you need some stone watcher sentries with
motion sensors that trigger a harsh clang, a la Cirith
Ungol. |
With a brace of cave trolls to open it; I'm not going to. |
(They *do* have a cave troll, don't they?) |
You could hide the key under the Balrug. |
Just stand in front of that post, [2fries]. Yes, that's the one, with all the bullet pock-marks on it. |
Do you want a blindfold ? |
Ah, Sir wishes to purchase one of our Animatronic Giant Spider gate-guards ? |
// They *do* have a cave troll, don't they? // |
Not currently. [UnaBubba] has left the building. |
//For each visitor, only the first press is registered.// |
So not just one ring then, but lots of rings, one per person. |
Oh I forgot , I should have gently explained that most humans have more than one person come to their door over the course of their time living at that address. |
For a true single use doorbell I would have thought an explosive charge to actuate the hammer would be more effective and would guarantee the lack of subsequent rings. |
They arrive, but they never leave. So, one per person. |
Yes, an explosive charge is often involved. |

Well how am I supposed to control the ricochettes if I can't see? Tsh! Unintended people would get slaughtered at random. |
You're new to this super-hero stuff aren't you? |
I thought this was some play on More Cowbell |
I assume there's an unreasonably bright dull orange
spotlight which piercingly illuminates whosoever
dares press the doorbell and tracks their movements
as they back away slowly off-premesis. |
They tend to hang around for a bit to use the bootscraper, after their slog through the Dead Marshes... |
// Unintended people would get slaughtered at random. // |
Yes, but there could equally well be a downside. |
// You're new to this super-hero stuff aren't you? // |
We're more familiar with the various Kirk/Picard/Sisko/ Janeway/Archer methodologies, which are pretty consistent. Turning superhero is like Q showing up unannounced - as usual - and cheating at everything, "because he can". Git. |
<shrugs> Well we work with what we have been left to work with now don't we?... |
Okay maggots, line up! Who wants the first ricochette? |
//unreasonably bright dull// Yes I think that could be a very useful kind of spotlight. |
Good one (at last!) [+] but shouldn't repeated pressings result in the finger being stabbed by a needle, with the subsequent blood samples retained for future mischief? |
To be consistent with the idiom, the tip would have to break off the needle and work its way into the victim's heart, turning them into a Ringwraith. |
