Mood Floor

Mood floor shows temperment of barefoot guests

When you ask guests to remove their shoes when they walk into your home, they walk on a floor made of the stuff mood rings are made out of. The entire floor could be covered with a gel-like skin of the stuff. You can tell how they feel as they walk around your house. It also is aesthetically pleasing, as it leaves a colorful trail or footprints--so it is kind of like art, science, and socially pleasing.

similar pressure-sensitive tiles [FarmerJohn, Oct 04 2004]

there would need to be a high level of foot contct for it to change color. Mearly walking on it would have much effect...standing - maybe. good concept though - croissant

Gel-like skin floor? My friend is Aquaman?

Perhaps you can wrap yourself in the floor covering too?
simple123, Apr 14 2004

I like the idea of a fading set of footprints appearing as someone walks across the floor, but share the doubt that enough heat will be transferred in a step to make a significant difference. Maybe the floor could react to pressure as well as temperature.

st3f: depends just how heat sensitive the floor is. Then again, make it too sensitive, and it will be mapping drafts and the pipes under the floor.
DrCurry, Apr 14 2004

Exactly. Without a significant heat transfer, the outline of the foot won't be clearly distinguished from the general noise of other factors, no matter how sensitive the floor.

Peak force, on the other hand will, in general, increase the faster you move, so a pressure-sensitive floor should even be able to pick up a runner.

Sorry, simple123, I'm backseat halfbaking. I really like your idea and hope you don't mind my trying to improve upon it.

Why not strap them into a chair and force them to tell you? probably more cost effective.

10 houseguests this month, all feeling the same. I should get some less-terrified friends.

Would be interesting in the master bedroom suite. Or as bedsheets...

You can tell if barefoot burglars have been in your house.

//make it too sensitive, and it will be mapping drafts//

this is a goog idea, but that sounds even better! would it be easier than the idea itself, because i would prefer it - superpsychadelic flooring. +
