Moderate amplifier

For a more balanced world

A device that amplifies the voice of moderates to the levels used by extremists - which they are unable to use by definition. Politics and media is saturated with gut reactions, sensationalism and self justifying heroes of a CAUSE/PARTY/FAITH/EVENT (delete as neccessary). This device could sort and prioritise news headlines for a start. So after election day we'd read something like: Conservatives - 14%, Labour party - 10%, Libdems - 3%, Others - 3%, not voted - 70%. Result: NO winner as most people don't care / are disengaged from the process - time to change the system. Similarly: 20million Afghanis today went on about their business trying to make a living - not even remotely considering blowing other people up in far away places. Or: 20,000 Brits played football at the weekend, some good, some not so, but they all had enormous fun. Google could possibly do this...

Ah, trying to chain the extremists to the art of trying to state reality. Not going to happen. Would be a good thing though.

ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF PROBABILITY, PRES. BUSH WILL PROBABLY THROW ANOTHER HISSY FIT IF WE DON'T LET HIM ERODE CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES THAT HAVE SHAPED OUR SOCIETY AND REMAIN AT THE CORE OF OUR FREEDOM AND LIBERTY. AT LEAST PUTTING UP WITH ANOTHER GEORGE W. BUSH HISSY FIT IS EASIER THAN CONVINCING PRES. BUSH'S APOLOGISTS THAT PRES. BUSH SAYS THAT COURTESY AND MANNERS DON'T COUNT FOR ANYTHING. BUT THEN HE TURNS AROUND AND SAYS THAT THE ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT IS, "THOU SHALT REVIVE THE RUINOUS EXCESS OF A BYGONE ERA TO BOUNCE AND BLOW AMIDST THE RUINOUS EXCESS OF THE PRESENT ERA". YOU KNOW, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS, PRES. BUSH. HE, WHO IS ASTONISHINGLY ADROIT AT TWISTING WORDS, HAS BEEN ABLE TO CONVINCE SCORES OF PEOPLE THAT YOU AND I ARE INFERIOR TO RESENTFUL PARTY ANIMALS. AND HERE, I SUSPECT, LIES A CLUE TO THE INTELLECTUAL VACUUM SO GAPINGLY APPARENT IN HIS SERMONS. FAR TOO MANY PEOPLE TOLERATE PRES. BUSH'S CROTCHETS AS LONG AS THEY'RE PRESENTED IN SMALL, SEEMINGLY HARMLESS DOSES. WHAT THESE PEOPLE FAIL TO REALIZE, HOWEVER, IS THAT IF IT WEREN'T FOR NUGATORY, BRAIN-DAMAGED CHUCKLEHEADS, PRES. BUSH WOULD HAVE NO FRIENDS.

While the extremists voice is louder, people pay more attention to the moderate one. So it balances out a bit anyway.

With only a few tweaks, this describes the job the free media are supposed to be doing.
