We already have selfies. We already have likes. We already have Tinder. And we already have "the most beautiful face" AI algorithms.

Why don't we have this app?

Yes, but only just. Do NOT take the paper bag off your head again, alright ? Look at the mess ... milk turned sour, stunned sparrows everywhere, and all the clocks stopped ... be warned !

Me first ever phone in Japan had a button to make the screen go reflective. Didn't really take off though.

       <Weary patience>

Yes, that is because it was a telephone, which is a sort of communications device; if you wanted it to take off, you should have asked the shop assistant for an aeroplane.

Some point there won't be any more Japanese tech, due to their population crash.

So it means you can buy a 2 storey house for (current exchange rate) £16,500 and a curlywurly. Link.

It's not just Japan; it's much worse than that.

The whole of the "developed" world is affected, but what's critical is the demographic profile.

If you analyse birth rate by socio-economic group, the reproduction rate in the more highly educated high-income group is much lower than average. They marry or form partnerships later in life, and have on average fewer children into which they concentrate resources.

While highly intelligent individuals can and do often arise spontaneously in the general population, the best marker for being a clever, successful and a high achiever is to be the child of clever, successful and high achieving parents.

As the overall population (neglecting immigration) falls, so the number of essential Nerds, Geeks and other tecchies is disproportionately reduced.

Also, many ÜberGeeks are male and have marked Aspergic tendencies. These individuals are on balance less successful than average in forming relationships and subsequently reproducing, which means their "valuable" genes that code for obsessive fascination and skill with with complex technology are lost from the gene pool.

At this point 8th foresaw The Doom That Came to Halfbakery.

With more scrying and entrails it's like The Doom That Came to Sarnath, but with the yellow tassels on the front.
not_morrison_rm, Dec 26 2018

Ah, but the moment is prepared for. Life on your planet may end, your sun may go out, but the HalfBakery will live on in our massively distributed consciousness, along with those bakers who we Assimilate ...

The yellow tassels are a nice touch, though. Can we get a mad, demonic flute player capering round the throne, too ?

Or at least a bit rugose and squamous.

In counterpoint, now is the best time for ubergeeks to be able to reproduce, as society has finally recognized their contributions as valuable. In generations past they did not have as much success. However, our collective health has degraded substantially due to the resultant poor habits.
