::Crappy old propaganda reel starts up::

Welcome ladies and gentlemen, you no doubt are enjoying a relaxing movie in an air conditioned theatre that only atomic power can provide so well.

But atomic radiation is also working against us. Even against this little fella. Cheer up fido, it's not that bad. What we are talking about is the sun's atomic radiation.

Those who live in cities are aware of the heat island these cities create. This is due to the fact that our suns rays hit the ground warming up the air even late into the night.

You the citizens of that city have a choice and can make the city a better place for everyone. Wear the mirrored sombrero and reflect those rays back to the heavens.

Why these lovely ladies are wearing them right now. Thank you ladies, you look modern and indicative of a push-button age society.

As you can see men and women alike look stylish in these mirror hats and they feel cooler as well. Everyone feels better knowing they are helping the well being of the entire community. Now whaddya say we all get some ice cream?

This was a public service announcement brought to you by the Federal Weather Commision. Thank you for you time.

::End propaganda reel::

But it does use mirrors [theircompetitor, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

This should work, and it's fashionable too! http://www.halfbake...pinning_20sun_20hat

Optional Feature// add a 90º gunsight to target pigeons. Roast squab anyone? //OF

Typical...rich people wearing their mirror hats indoors, pretending they’re helping the environment.
ldischler, May 11 2004

Consider this: normal sea water is highly reflective on the surface; nevertheless, global warming (cooling, actually) is directly proportional to the percentage of white caps on the seas, reflecting sunlight back into space. So I suspect you are better off painting things white than making them reflective. I think I once proposed painting Antartica white.
DrCurry, May 11 2004

Antartica white? All that reflective ice is wasted down there. Blow up the Ross Ice Shelf, and tug those billions of ice bergs north, where they can do some good, reflecting light back into space.
ldischler, May 11 2004

Nice to see you, [sarty]. I feel duty-bound to point out that 1) people's heads are not flat, but round and 2) people tilt their heads every which way but up. Both factors would lead to world-wide panic, blindness and traffic jams. Sounds like an intriguing, but dangerous fashion statement. Perhaps a renaissance of white caps (bring back the habit) would be more useful... but, hey, you're the one in outer space, you tell me what you see.

The best solution would be for everyone to wear a plant on his or her head.
AO, May 11 2004

Thanks, [K-sy] you have been rare on here too lately.

I was kinda hoping for mass chaos and people who say, "Yup, I live in the city that's why I wear this hat. It's for the environment y'know." In much the same way that people flaunt their 212 area codes.

//but, hey, you're the one in outer space, you tell me what you see.//

Your right, I was hoping that if this caught on I would see mercury glitter flow through the streets on the 30x magnify.

//The best solution would be for everyone to wear a plant on his or her head.//

Yes, brilliant! On hot days plants give off noxious chemicals. Buahhahahaha!!!
sartep, May 11 2004

Hmm, I wonder if you could use these hats to signal ET:

"Ok, people, angle your head 25 degrees and, hats on. Hold it, hold it... Hats off. Thank you very much"
theircompetitor, May 11 2004

//people tilt their heads every which way but up//

The hat needs gyroscopic controls so that it self levels.
DenholmRicshaw, May 11 2004

+1 whatever sartep says is fine by me!
po, May 11 2004

[Den] I was thinking that a gimballed hat with a weight swinging over your head might work well enough.
Worldgineer, May 11 2004

       You are too kind Po.
sartep, May 11 2004

//whatever sartep says is fine by me!//

       I see the mind-control is working nicely... ; )
k_sra, May 11 2004

There is no mind control here.
sartep, May 11 2004

Yes, <wink wink> of course <wink> Not here.
k_sra, May 11 2004

Mirrored hats block that sort of thing.
yabba do yabba dabba, May 11 2004

once a day everyone would stop simutaneously, point their hats at the city's solar water heating tower, and generate enough steam to power the server farm that hosts HB.
eyeguy, May 12 2004

Can one's Mirror Hat also be one's Secret Hat?
krelnik, May 12 2004

Not if you tell people about it. I'm assuming that you are asking this for a friend, right? ;)
sartep, May 12 2004

If everyone stuck just one AOL CD to their head, there'd be no global warming.
