Speaker "mines" that broadcast psych warfare when triggered | |
They wouldn't be worth taking out and would be pretty
hard to find if the messages were short enough, so you'd
have free reign over what the attacking enemy would hear.
Messages could range from "You really sure this is worth
dying for?" to screeching unpleasant sounds to fake calls for
retreat
or taunts. "Wow, your mommy dressed you real
pretty today."
For extra impact you could make them blow up like a
regular landmine after they made a snappy insult.

I've always thought mimes were a type of psychological warfare. |
Very good deterent, in a shot-across-your-bow sort of way. "Today is a good day to die." "Daisey pushers anonymous drop in center." "Ask yourself, do I feel lucky? Well... do ya?" "If you take the path less travelled, it will make all the difference." "DUCK!!!" |
Hah! Now you're trapped in a box too! |
[marked-for-evil] I wonder if this is legal in international law. |
I can't see how it would be legal to blow someone's
legs off but illegal to taunt them first. |
So now we need a mine-sweeping robot with good voice-recognition software. |
alternately, you might have mines in less heavily
embattled zones, so that enemies in that area might
be distracted by sounds of gunfire off to the right,
then perhaps be led into and ambush or whatever. |
of course, asking whether it's worth dying for is the
best one. morale killer, right there. half the unit
would desert that minute. |

Is half of the unit in which you are serving of direct French descent? |
Did you know we got the word "capitulation" from
the French? |
Could have knocked me down with a feather. |

Except for how it's not. [Link] |

At first, I was a little apprehensive about this as you would probably need a few thinktanks to come up with fresh speaker mine remarks for each battle, to keep them from wearing thin. But then again, it might actually be a good idea to cycle between the same four or five grating lines (like NPCs' randomised speech in videogames), hopefully speeding up the process of desertion through irritation. |
