Just tried to microwave a frozen burrito on a normal paper plate.
It stuck to the plate and I nearly burned my fingers and the burrito got yanked apart before it was free.
Some products come in a paper like bowl they intend you to microwave. So it must be doable. Maybe they just don't stock
them where I have been shopping.
Guess I will have to do the dishes now.

Water migrates from the burrito into the open fiber
structure of the plate, and carries some of the proteins
from the tortilla with it. Since that's the part which
provides the burrito with structural integrity (at least,
after it's thawed, what's left of said structure) your
burrito is now fused to the same plate. |
|
|
You could:
a. Add some condiments and eat both
b. Soak the paper plate first so the transfer goes the
other way (I don't guarantee that your plate's structure
will tolerate this)
c. Get a plate that has a waxy plastic coating (bisphenyl-
A?)
d. Get a plate made from a non-porous material (like
glass or ceramic or something) |
|
|
If you want to do some science, you could try a combo of
a and b: put a splash of hot sauce on the paper plate, put
the burrito on top of it, nuke & gobble. |
|
|
Don't microwave a burrito just leave one close to a space heater for a while. |
|
|
Perhaps if the plate started off wet (or just wetter
than the
burrito) you wouldn't get the same plate-burrito
adhesion. |

Rice-paper insert 'tween item and plate? |

|
There are no circumstances whatsoeveratall under
which the use of a paper plate is acceptable. |
|
|
The burrito is contentious; some authorities (rightly in my opinion) decree it also "right out". |

//The burrito is contentious// Not all of them are, but I've
definitely eaten some that were. |

How about a wooden plate, or just a small wooden board? |
|
|
How about a small tray made out of popsicle sticks? |
