Don't know about you, but being busy I always seem to let my cup of Coffee or Tea go cold. How about coasters made of a heat-retaining substance that gets warm when microwaved. Bingo, your coffee is kept at perfect drinking temperature, and your table is protected! Shouldn't be too difficult.

Let me know if you find one that's good enough to solve this problem - Self_20heating_20sake_20cup
- about 100F would be nice [normzone, Jan 04 2005]

wouldn't hot coasters leave marks on the wood in the same way as your hot coffee mug does?

       Like Cork.

In the ski cabin, a tile coaster from under a hot dish kept my buns warm for a half hour after supper.

do we really need to know that?
po, Jan 04 2005

What? They were tasty with coffee later.
FarmerJohn, Jan 04 2005

Not entirely sure why the coasters wouldn't cool down along with the coffee. And ruin the finish on the table.
