Our city/county holds regular meetings. They publish the minutes as PDFs on the web, but unless you read them bimonthly, you'll probably miss decisions and changes that are important to you.
For example, the township managers in my area decided to make major changes to roads, signage, and creek flow
without any kind of notification or input from those affected. The only way I could find out about these changes was to search every PDF from the last year for references to our street name, names of neighbors, and nearby businesses.
I propose a simple system officers at these meetings could use to indicate "affected areas" when discussing topics. Could be a single location, a center with a radius, or an irregular shape. You could then subscribe to an area or browse a map of discussion topics to quickly find anything relevant to your property, neighborhood, city, or township.

... which is deliberate. *They* don't want you to know about these things. Democracy is fine as long as you can keep voters and the General Public getting involved in it. |

At eight o'clock on Thursday morning Arthur didn't feel
very good. He woke up blearily, got up,
wandered blearily round his room, opened a window, saw
a bulldozer, found his slippers, and stomped off to
the bathroom to wash... |

"People of Earth, your attention please," a voice said, and
it was wonderful. Wonderful perfect
quadrophonic sound with distortion levels so low as to
make a brave man weep.
"This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace
Planning Council," the voice continued.
"As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development
of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the
building of a hyperspatial express route through your star
system, and regrettably your planet is one of
those scheduled for demolition. The process will take
slightly less that two of your Earth minutes. Thank
you."... |

..."What do you mean you've never been to Alpha Centauri?
For heaven's sake mankind, it's only four
light years away you know. I'm sorry, but if you can't be
bothered to take an interest in local affairs that's
your own lookout. " |
