Readers may recall that in the Nineties, it
was de riguer to have 'standing meetings'
where, because people are only allowed to
stand, people generally kept their waffle to
a minimum and the meeting was finished
with as few extraneous conversations as
possible.
Skip forward a few
years
and this tradition seems to have
been overlooked. I therefore propose the
meeting spike, each meeting room table is
surrounded by spikes, at roughly chair
height (the chairs having been removed),
thus, not only is it more uncomfortable
because you can no longer stand and rest
on the table, you can also no longer sit.
Hey presto, they afternoon is free for
productivity. Or going home.
two spikes would be an extravagence.

I like the "walking meetings" idea. I wish that i could get the linked guidelines broadly accepted in my workplace. Too many cats and loose cannons though.

Much like we have also put aside "Theory Z", William Ouchi, and a good deal of the Japanese-translated corporate productivity theory espoused in the late '70s and early '80s. |

I don't think the spike part of this idea is used effectively. Mount them on the walls, and have them close in slowly. Now your meetings have controlled end times. |
