Readers may recall that in the Nineties, it
was de riguer to have 'standing meetings'
where, because people are only allowed to
stand, people generally kept their waffle to
a minimum and the meeting was finished
with as few extraneous conversations as
possible.
Skip forward a few
years
and this tradition seems to have
been overlooked. I therefore propose the
meeting spike, each meeting room table is
surrounded by spikes, at roughly chair
height (the chairs having been removed),
thus, not only is it more uncomfortable
because you can no longer stand and rest
on the table, you can also no longer sit.
Hey presto, they afternoon is free for
productivity. Or going home.
two spikes would be an extravagence.

I like the "walking meetings" idea. I wish that i could get the linked guidelines broadly accepted in my workplace. Too many cats and loose cannons though.

excuse me, is this spike taken? |

Much like we have also put aside "Theory Z", William Ouchi, and a good deal of the Japanese-translated corporate productivity theory espoused in the late '70s and early '80s. |

[jurist] - I've spent more time in
meetings which has been
unconstructive than construtive. |

Yeah, I get your point. Can I go now? + |

no need to be so sharp [k_sra]. |
|
|
I managed to annoy one of the managers in a previous employment who insisted on having stood-up meetings by always attending them in a wheelchair. |
|
|
probably knew it was the only way he'd
get you to look up to him [oneoff]. |

|
[neilp], just got out of a meeting that could have used this technique. In fact the only thing that WOULD have made that meeting more fun would be a sharp stick in the eye. |
|
|
I don't think the spike part of this idea is used effectively. Mount them on the walls, and have them close in slowly. Now your meetings have controlled end times. |

|
Sharp sticks in meetings. Always a good idea. + |
|
|
So the Board Room (Bored Room?) gets decked out like one of those old Iron Maiden torture closets? Sounds reasonable. + |

[neilp] You know him then? |

Jostling to get close to the boss: "Knock knock" "Who's there?" "Sheesh!" "Sheesh, Who?" The other attendees in unison: "Shish Kebab!" |

No, no, these are pole pants. That is how they are supposed to look. Special pants. Here, feel the pole. It's built in! |

It occurs to me that
