I'm not sure if there's already some version of this idea, the cross country part might be new. For instance: take a rectangular shaped state like kansas. The western end zone would be colorado and the eastern one missouri. You get a first down every ten miles or more that you gain. Otherwise it's basically
mechwarrior meets madden.

the 10-mile-down probably won't work. You'll still have the usual fights at the line of scrimmage and so the difficulty of advancing will probably scale lineraly with the size of the robots. Since nobody has ever even proposed a mech big enough to make kansas the proportional size of a football field, I'd say your sizes need tweaking. That said it's not a bad idea, but mecha-sports have been baked in anime for a long time. |

I don't think the proportional comparisons are important. granted kansas is bigger then your average playing field. but this is a different kind of game. The cross country element calls for a larger playing field. A good proportional comparison would be playing your way across town, you've got to go ten blocks for a first down, the river to the south is out of bounds and the end zone's on the other side of the turnpike. It's not just a game, it's a strategic campaign. |

Try Australia, then you could hitch a ride from Brisbane to Sydney for your first down. |

Shame about all those innocents killed. Hmm. Actually, that'd probably add to the gameplay. Maybe some kind of Deathrace 2000-esque death toll scoring system. |

"Down"?, "Scrimmage"? Those aren't football terms. I think they belong to "American Football", a recent derivative of Rugby played in the US. Apparently the popularity of this game is so great over there that few Americans can play football, which is why America always goes out first in the World Cup :-) |

That's soccer, to those fishing on the other side of the pond. |

Note category, this is a proposal for a video game. |

I like the idea. If "NFL Street" (another video game based on a ridiculously impractical variation of american football) can sell, why not this? |
|
|
Yes, I frequently use the word gameplay to refer to real life. Just because they're not real, doesn't mean they're not innocent. |
|
|
Yes, I use it too, when referring to real-life football games. |

You forgot canadian and arena, Tabs. |

I don't understand. all the images I see of american football is guys holding the ball. why don't you call it american cuddle ball? |

there really is only one beautiful game, football, footie... |
|
|
It doesn't have to be a rectangular state - let's use Massachusetts, for example. The eastern seaboard could be the "mucky" side of the field - every quarter, rotate field sides, so each team guards the Grand Banks twice. |

|
Oh, I didn't know it could be used in that sense [krelnik], apologies for the sarcasm. To be honest, the concept of actually playing sport in real life doesn't sit well with me. Sitting is something I like to do. |
