Mailbox Delivers Itself

The title says it all.

Out here in the sticks houses on busy streets have their mailboxes recessed from the street and mounted to face their driveway. The right-hand drive delivery Jeep pulls into the driveway so that the vehicle is mostly out of the flow of traffic, decants the mail, and then either backs out or makes a u-turn on the driveway.

Residents returning home in their vehicles must pull in, stop, get out and walk around to access the mailbox. If only the mail could come to them instead!

RockCo proudly unveils the Mailbox That Comes To You. The indestructible stainless steel mailbox is mounted to a rugged assembly that, upon triggering via its remote control, rises to a level above the window sill and automatically extends through the passenger window (preferably open), stopping about halfway inside the vehicle. Opening the mailbox pauses the retracting mechanism which will return the box to the post. A green/red light indicates whether there is mail and a weight switch inhibits operation if the box contents exceed a user-defined limit.

Deluxe model incorporates a junk mail recycling system. Any mail not retrieved during the delivery process is subjected to a gas-fired incinerator, the beneficial ash benching onto the grass after cooling.

Somebody has to have thought of this no? Although I was hoping it would walk to the house robot style. [+] regardless.

[+] If you live further out you don’t get a mailbox, or even a communal mailbox. No delivery. I like this solution but I need something with greater range. (Or less mail?)

To make it a lot more complicated:

Install a circular channel of steel arc in a curved sleeve under the driveway. The channel protrudes 3.5’ above the end of the sleeve and has a mailbox on top. Mail is delivered normally to the box on the right side of the driveway. When the homeowner returns they activate the drive mechanism that raises the mailbox on the curved, circular channel over the drive, over the vehicle, and stops opposite the driver’s window.

Of course, it also includes the incineration option. (And it’s padded.)
