I have been thinking of organising an event called International René Magritte Day, to celebrate the work of the famous surrealist.

To launch the event, a "flock" of scaled up dirigibles, each one modelled on the famous bowler hatted figure, would simultaneously take to the air in an attempt to recreate one of his iconic paintings (see link)

They might like having an annual tourist attraction that celebrates one if its famous citizens. [doctorremulac3, Jan 29 2022]

A bit limiting . A 'Surreal Day' would be fun. An elephant with insanely skinny legs would work as a balloon too.

       Take up your arm
Sons and daughters
We will arise from the bunkers
By land, by sea, by dirigible
We'll leave our tracks untraceable now

Wags, that's a fantastic poem. Who's it by?

"Ceci n'est pas gonflable"

I must admit that I envisaged an idea rather smaller in scope: a pomme gonflable equipped with sufficient high-tech light-weight gubbins that it is able to float and remain in a position that would completely obscure the face of the "wearer" from the view of his or her co-conversationalist.

       Why would anybody bone this?

You should do this on your own. Just have group funding thing to get a bunch of balloons made and go to some park in his hometown and have Magritte Day. Make it an event people go to with food, artists selling their wares etc.

This is brilliant and I think you could make your mark on history by doing this. I'd never miss this yearly celebration. [+]

Hmm, I was thinking it could be on his birthday but that's November 21, this seems like a better event for summer.
He died in August but that's kind of a bummer date.

Just pick a day in summer I guess. Date he painted his first painting or got his first art exhibit maybe?
Something where the weather's nice.
