I was having fun assembling a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle last night when I got a phone call and got up from the table rather carelessly and knocked all my pieces around and on the floor. This has happened to me before and I readily admit that I am the biggest clutz on the planet. So how bout someone
make a jigsaw puzzle with a thin magnetic layer on the bottom of the pieces. With a proper sized metal board to assembly the pieces on there would be no chance that the pieces would ever move anywhere you didn't intend for them to move. Plus it would be easy to frame if that was your intention. Any feedback at all would be most helpful. Thanks!

I'm tempted to "puzzle saver" each piece into place as soon as I find a fit. You idea would be a good alternative :) + |

There is already an idea on this site by [sartep]named "Magnetic Jigsaw Puzzle"; however, it is more interested in a use for rare earth magnets.[link] |

how did this idea get classified here? |

Aren't jigsaw puzzles a tea time activity? |

The difference between his idea and
mine was not the use of rare earth
magnets but the use of magnets for
productive or counterproductive
measures in helping you put together a
puzzle. I opted for making the magnets
one more puzzling factor in putting
together a jigsaw puzzle. |

Here's a better idea, I think. The pieces are metallic, and the board is magnetic, such that it can be switched on and off. That way, it's not irritating to try to move the pieces around, but you still can 'freeze' the board when you want to. |
