Many of the ideas here basically advocate replacing the "ding dong" sound with something different. Well, why not make it completely customizable? The "sound box" part of the doorbell has a removable USB flash drive. Just remove the drive, upload a .wav or .mp3 file to it, replace it back in the doorbell and voila!

[k_sra]: I think, if you look at your link again, you'll see it's not quite the same as this idea. Your link is for a product preloaded with a sound file. This idea allows the user to change their own sound file at will. Please consider removing your [m-f-d].

Touche [Tabs]. The possibilities for amusement are endless - I'm warming to this idea. I could replace my doorbell with a recording of me shouting "Madge, there's somebody at the door!" and never have to leave my seat again.

Of course the caller would also hear it, so I could use a recording of "Hold on I'm coming" and chuckle contendedly while I'm at work, at the queue of callers waiting in vain outside my house.

I was just thinking about this while browsing home depot's crappy doorbell selection. Good thinking, this.

a recording of somebody yelling "get the gun" with some sounds of tourture in the backdrop would scare a lot of people away, so I find this to be a perfect idea

If you called this the iDoorbell you could link it into iTunes and charge people to change their doorbell bell tone.

They could be the new ringtones.
