In the US, we have a very successful car recovery system called "Lojac" that employs a signal that is activated when you report your car stolen. Why can't nervous parents buy this same technology for their kids so they can be found within minutes of being abducted.

One of several, you can start looking here. [DrCurry, Oct 21 2004]

Homing Beacons Galore http://www.digitalangel.net/
This is the latest entrant in this already crowded field. I did a patent survey back in 1990 which showed that there were a ton of solutions (yet each with their own faults). [pathetic, Oct 21 2004]

I think this is an amazing idea. Imagine being able to trace a child that has been kidnapped, or lost in the woods. (+)

But what happens if the kid has not been abducted? What happens if Mr. & Mrs. Anxious-Parents report their child lost, when s/he is simply walking back home?

Both Half Baked and Baked. You can put them in the kids' shoes or teddy bears.

(I'm afraid you'll have to find your own links, though.)
