Cover the whole blasted car in flexible LCD panels. Wired together to act as a seamless unit (similar to solar roof tiles), you could change the color of your car at will. No backlighting necessary as this would only offer more of a distraction. Fine layer of protective coating to keep scratches away.
Barring
the entire car, panels could also cover just doors, bonnet, and/or boot.
Would be great for companies to post adverts on their vehicles. Whilst animation might be suspect to legal eyes (too distracting to other drivers), the advert could be easily changed from time to time as an outfit updates its image. Contrasting colors would be the most effective.
Would work a trifle better on boxier cars such as estates, vans, or Minis than it would on, say, a Lotus Elan or Jaguar XK.
The technology could also be adapted to the wheels to change the pattern of spokes at will. Though the upfront cost would be high, the ability to pimp one's car at will would be worth it. You could even simulate those rims that continue to rotate after the car has stopped.

I've always found that simply flipping the car achieves this
without the need for additional hardware. |

Also, car adverts would work really well. Imagine, say, a Ford
Patella covered in these panels, depicting in perfect 1:1
scale a Ford Patella! |

I was thinking also perhaps a large panel van being colored in grayish blue excepting of course for the image of a Murcielago placed neatly over the same wheels. In this case, the LCD wheels would be highly desired as the wheels of a lorry would look absurd on a Lambo. |
