Knit-wits are a set of patterns that enable you to knit the complete life size heads, of a range of famous luminaries and philosophers.

Each set comes with all the fine wool, in various colours, needed to create the subtle flesh tones, and functions not unlike a painting by numbers kit. Beginners can also chose the single colour or duo-tone option.

Once complete you can stretch your knitted philosopher over a manikin head and put it on a shelf for display.

Alternatively you may like to wear it yourself in order to keep warm in the winter as you go snowboarding in the guise of Albert Einstein, Carl Marx or Bertrand Russell.

Marie Curie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Curie
for some reason I rememered seeing a photo that made me think she was quite attractive. I can't find one like what I remembered, though. [Zimmy, Aug 28 2006]

I suppose there could also be a mini range for keeping boiled eggs warm.

+ I just hope there are some pretty women philosophers to chose from. I never wanted to look like Albert Einstein.

Love it. I am a bad knitter (not bad as in "bad-ass" or "good", bad as in "inept") but I'd love this. If I were any better I'd drop everything and swing my butt on home right now and start on a pattern.

I forgot about the use of the word "luminaries" in the idea. I started to post this link, but backed out as she was not a philosopher, as far as I know.

       So, as a Luminary; <link>

'Luminary' as in "2. a) a person who sheds light on some subject or enlightens mankind; famous intellectual"

& thanks for making me look that up! I came across madonna on one of the dictionary page headers & thought I had a funny 1/2b idea for a while. The trance ended with pictures of fishbones.

Totally unrelated to this idea I just found out today that my wife's mother used to take knit hats and add hair or horns or whatever to make the headpiece of a costume for holloween. So the kids could go out treat or treating in Minnesota (very cold) and still stay if not warm at least alive.
