Ketchup marbles

Heat activated sauce packaging

An organic/edible (and tasteless) coating designed to desolve when its surface temperature is raised above say 40 degress (celsius). Use this to package ketchup, mustard,(butter for use on toast?), and other sauces. Then when sauce is placed atop steaming burger, the packaging melts and the sauce is delivered.

tada - no packaging waste and if the coating/packaging was spherical then you'd have Ketchup Marbles.

Alternatively, you could target the delivery of the sauce for a certain food by arranging for the coating to react to chemical markers cooked into the meal. Or perhaps an engineered chemical could be added to meals which would trigger the disassociation of the sauce packaging.

About paintballs: Non-toxic and... http://www.ambushal...ral_questions.shtml
"Paintballs are not actually made of paint. They are gelatin capsules (the same ingredient in Jell-O) containing a colorful, water soluble, biodegradable, non-toxic mixture of vegetable oil, food coloring, and soap detergent. The same machines that make paintballs also make bath oil beads and vitamin capsules." [half, Oct 04 2004]

Wax? But how do you package it? And portioning might be a problem. What's wrong with the way things are done now?

Makes me think: Apply your condiments using a paintball gun? A build-your-own-burger restaurant where your sandwich moves across a shooting gallery and you apply the desired sauces from various guns?

Packaging might be tricky - but then how do they make maltesers? Of course this is slightly harder as the contents of the sphere are also fluid...
drainfood, Jul 18 2003

       Melting packages .... no.
Chemical 'markers' in meal ... no.
Disassociations being triggered in my food ... no.

If you could find a different way to do this, I would like it, but these application methods seem a bit creepy! How about [half]'s suggestion?

I don't see why they have to be spherical. Normal ketchup packet shape would be more manufacturable. Perhaps just freeze ketchup in these shapes - no need for packaging and no change in flavor. Either that or make the packaging out of cheese.

I don't get the point of these. They will have to be kept in something, so there will be packaging.
waugsqueke, Jul 18 2003

You keep them in your pockets. Duh!
DeathNinja, Jul 18 2003

Hmmm.. I was hoping these could be belted, the same way you can with ammunition ... one H.E., one A.P., one Tracer......

Just imagine an M-134 fed with alternate rounds of Ketchup, Mustard and Pickle ....

Maybe I should abandon the idea, [halfs] is so much better...

// You keep them in your pockets. //

How do you get them into your pockets? Where do you get them?
waugsqueke, Jul 19 2003

Packaging could be made of "imitation American pasteurized process cheese food product", which is, if I am not mistaken, actually a plastic.

guys wear jewellery. thats a brill idea, somm. do it quickly before someone else does. ("sommonestopme" suggested condiment jewellery - but he seems to have gone now) <thinks> perhaps I will do it </thinks>

this idea always reminds me of those little soluble balls that you toss in the bath.

vegetatians and other food taboo folk might have issues with gelatin capsules
davidcreede, Jul 22 2003

strange that people other than vegetarins don't find liquified animal by-products offputting
drainfood, Jul 22 2003

I'd love a big bag of gelatin-encased ketchup and hot sauce bath beads. There would be way less waste for individual servings in fast food places than traditional packets if you only needed one container to ship hundreds of servings.
