John Peel Chair

 A permanent post to mark his passing

Stephen Hawking currently occupies Isaac Newton's chair at Cambridge University. The chair was created to mark Newton's visionary genius and has been home to many eminent scientists since then.

I would like to propose the creation of a 'John Peel Chair' by the BBC in honour of the great man's contribution to the variety of British culture and steady hand at the tiller of our musical output. The holder would be automatically entitled to a one hour show every week on BBC Radio 1 in which they have complete control of the playlist.

I would also like to put Eddy Temple-Morris of XFM fame (?) up as the first nominee due to his consistent unearthing of new material.

       A self depricating man who gave the impression that he thought he was a bit naff, but that his music was great. I always felt it was the other way round. (although he did help launch the careers of The Undertones, The Sex Pistols, The Smiths, The Manic Street Preachers, The Fall, The White Stripes, The Strokes, David Bowie...)
