Trying to figure out what little strip of paper goes with what other little strip of paper is likely a boring, unsatisfying job. To add a bit of fun to the investigator/identity thief's life I propose a shredder with a jigsaw-shaped cutting surface. Also fun for the kids - shred family photos for custom
jigsaw fun, or shred a treasure map that leads to their allowance.

very nice+, though isn't this similar to origami printers, etc. |
Except the investigator/identity thief isn't doing the shredding. |
True, but it's a nice gesture. No reason to make someone's job painfully boring, even if they are trying to steal your life. |
On the contrary. Good idea for other aforementioned purposes, though. |

There would really need to be cardboard bases to put on the back of each piece of paper. Otherwise all you get is a bunch of curled, half-folded pieces of paper which don't lie flat on a table. |
Shredded paper isn't curled. Yes, without backing it's a bit more difficult to work with, but I don't think it would be too hard. |

Oh. I thought this was a tool for people who got really irritated with jigsaws. Jigsaw sabotage, that sort of thing. Much more satisfying, in a transient sort of way. |
Personally feel that jigsaws should be supplied with scissors and a hammer. I refuse to have my creativity restricted by some faceless jigsaw designer, manipulating me to make a picture of a fluffy kitten, who cares?
Not entirely sure that a jigsaw of a tax return would be a huge improvement, though... [+] |

That's interesting. Perhaps you should post an idea for jigsaw pieces that are all alike except in image. Then you can arrange them however you want. Also, it would be much harder for those conventional types who like to do what they're told. |
Yeah, let's make them all square, and..., yeah, I know, then we'll make each square a separate colour so you don't get any clues as to how you're s'posed to arrange them, and then... |
