Lava lamps have had their fun and place within most homes at one point, and in most cases still are, however they are usually stuck in the back of a cupboard, broken.

Have a kreisel in the shape of a large lava lamp filled with cold water. At the base is a flash the same used with cameras which periodically flashes light ,add Aequorea victoria and watch the fluorescent fun as your family of phosphorescent friends move and float around within the vessel.

Hm. Any way you could get a lamp that would float through the air like a pulsating jelly fish? (Without the stinging fronds bit, of course.)

According to the link, the jellyfish in question do not glow continuously nor do they flash at one another. They only procude a dim light around the rim of their bell when disturbed.

Could you perhaps use one of the types of bioluminescent algae/dinoflagellates/copepods and include a pump or stirrer to move the water around inducing the algae/whatever to glow.

Providing it doesn't upset the jellyfish.
