Internal Tattoos

Sorry, but some of this is might be a bit UK-centric. I’m sure someone will be able to translate, though.

So we were talking about tattoos at work the other day. Turns out none of us have one, but we’d all thought about it. One guy mentioned that he’d like a chip on his shoulder, and after that the suggestions came flooding in:

A tap on the head.
A bird in the hand (and two in the… Well, maybe not).
A monkey on your back.
A millstone round your neck.
Water on the knee.

Then someone (come to think of it, it might have been me) mentioned toad in the hole…

Which got me thinking about internal tattoos. Getting things tattooed on your internal organs. It might be a bit of a kerfuffle (what with having to open you up and stitch you back together again afterwards), but it does have definite possibilities, even if it’s only to surprise a coroner.

For example, if you’re an alcoholic, getting an already expired “best before” date tattooed on your liver might be fun. Or “Buy one get one free” on one of your kidneys.

Organ donors could write good luck messages on their innards, or “if found, please return to…” messages.

Couples sometimes like to have the name of their beloved indelibly etched on an intimate part of their body… With Valentines Day fast approaching, what could be more romantic than having the name of your lover literally emblazoned across your heart?

Hi lostdog!!! The_20Invisible_20Tattoo
We kind of discussed this a little on my idea, but not that much. [blissmiss, Jan 16 2010]

You might want to have it done in a radio-opaque ink, then it would show up on X-rays. [+]

Bun. I asked a guy how much he paid for the 'Dumbass' tatoo on his forehead and he said the shop insisted on doing it for free. Great deal.

I think we had internal tattoos before.... too lazy and not that fussed to look.

I liked [MB]'s suggestion at first, then I thought about it some more and realised that it would spoil things a little. The best thing about this idea is the pointlessness of it, the fact that you've actually bothered to do something difficult that will never be seen. Some things are magnificent that way - like giving a great performance to an empty room, just for the hell of it. That's a cool thing to do, but it would somehow lose the magic if you taped it for people to see.
