Current armed conflicts are not notably eco-freindly. They involve
consuming large quantities of hydrocarbon fuels, require significant
amounts of energy, metals and minerals, and leave a fair bit of mess
behind.
The Institute for Sustainable Conflict would attempt to inform and
educate nations
to go to war in a more eco-friendly way. Fighting
vehicles powered by rechargeable batteries, hydrogen, fuel cells or
solar power would be promoted. Uniforms and footwear would be
produced using natural fibres from sustainable sources. Ration packs
would have vegetarian and vegan options. Recycling would be a key
element of designs. Biological weapons would be favoured over
chemical ones, but any toxic compounds would be organically derived,
biodegradeable, and responsibly sourced.
Medical and battlefield trauma services would be expanded to include
Crystal therapy, Reiki, Acupuncture, Reflexology and Chiropractic.
Lots and lots and lots of people would still die of course, probably
much more slowly and in a great deal more pain than at present
(apart from the ones getting the Coca Leaf and Poppy Juice herbal tea)
but at least they will do so in an eco-friendly and socially responsible
way.
I'll pit my bureau against your institute any day...

Or... we just stop conflict. |

All we are saying, is give pea shooters a chance ? |
|

//Or... we just stop conflict// |
|

Historically impossible. However, research by the
European Union suggests* that a war in europe might
take
longer to declare than the average lifespan of anyone
declaring anything. War in Europe remains theoretically
possible, but requires more paperwork than the current
amount of planetary carbon can provide. |

* or may suggest, depending upon review in the light of
the French truck drivers union's leadership ballot. |

... I thought it was give PIZZA chance? Much more likely to gain widespread acceptance. |

To be honest, the US military is trying to go green...see link. |

Sustainable conflict reminds me of that original trek episode where attacks were simulated, and people tagged as having been killed reported to disintegration chambers. Kirk bolluxed that all up, for the betterment of all & especially the luminous-eyed alien babe. |
|
|
Bolluxed. Is that used correctly? Between this site and now Stampy and Squid I have these cravings to use UK slang. Both because it is fine, and because I suspect its use by the likes of me causes crampy pain to its proper owners. |
|
|
I think it's "bollix", and ditto regarding fresh slang. |
|
|
Bollox is the preferred spelling, but ad-hoc variants and extensions are welcome. So with my best Oxbridge accent I say "bolluxed" is just luvverley. |
|
|
If I might be so indelicate, saw a pic of a "bollock dagger" about 34 years ago...: |
|
|
"The dagger was popular in Scandinavia, Flanders, England, Wales and Scotland between the 13th and 18th centuries" and so on. See linky |
|
|
"Popular" is a term that (rather like the dagger) cuts both ways.
While it may have been popular with those wielding one, they
were no doubt deeply unpopular with those unfortunate enough
to be wounded by one. |
|
|
[bungs], you're thinking of "A Taste Of Armageddon". And Kirk
was acting from his usual high moral principles, not just for the
totty
heh heh

I think this idea has been repeated throughout the ages. Undoubtedly in the 18th century England a similar notion was repeated by Malthus, whereupon his closing remarks would resemble yours, "therefore, war is the most sustainable endeavor of all". Of course you're looking at the issue well on the other side of industrialization, where sustainability actually means sustaining industrial capitalism with a new type of fashionable consumerism. So of course it would be in your bastard interests that war would not continue to create an argument against a system you might feel an affectation for as if it was of your own devising. Indeed, this idea is actually a cunning strategy to protect your cultural imperialism at the same time as weaponizing the loathsome cultural iconography that is part of the sustainability marketing scheme. |

The production of boots is on the rise. |

[rcarty] - I'm sensing some vitriol. |
|

How can someone resist rebellion in an Upper place in Canada? |

Sadly, no, haven't you seen the menagerie? |
|
|
Its called American football. |

You lost me at vegetarian options. The idea that a
vegetarian is better for the environment is truthy but
just
plain wrong. The human body needs protein and there's
no better way with today's technology to turn untended
grass fields into protein than a meat animal. |
|
|
Sure a person can eat beans instead. But beans don't
grow on untended grassland. Now if the objection is to
growing large amounts of corn to feed it to cattle, or
growing cattle without harvesting the methane, or
chopping down rainforest to grow cattle I'm completely
with you. But these things are unrelated to whether a
vegetarian diet is environmentally friendly. Just as
breaking into my neighbor's house to steal his soap is
fairly unrelated to how efficient a shower is compared to
a bath. |
|
|
Incredibly brilliant, until the government takes this
seriously and announces a trillion dollar plan to enact
it. |
|
|
In our efforts to devise clean little wars using green
technologies where everything recycles might we soon stagger
(race?) down the path of Soylent Green [link]? No sense in
burying the //lots and lots and lots of people// that would
still die as that breaks the sustainable-green-eco loop. |
|
|
Never been keen on military conflict, 8th. But I find myself wavering toward the side of continual & continuous violence in the face of that tempting Coca Leaf & Poppy Juice tea. Mmmm! |
|
|
From the lunch menu, would Sir care to try the Magic Mushroom omelette, served with ergot rye-bread toast ? |
|
|
Perhaps the conflict could be fought much more slowly, so
that one volley between sides takes about a billion years.
Peace and war simultaneously. |
