Expensive, difficult, slightly dangerous, not particularly effective... I'm on a roll.

Im sure many have been in a situation where you are painting something - a part of your house maybe (in my case, our bathroom) and some nasty little sandlfy comes and lands on your freshly painted wall and becomes stuck. This normally leaves you with a small black mark on your nice clean wall, which after alot of time spent prepping and painting can be very annoying.

I believe the best way to remedy this problem is to add insect repellent to the paint, to stop the flies landing on it.

Its so simple I cant believe its not already baked.... or is it???

Extensive research (70 seconds on Google) failed to find a paint designed to repel insects while it dries, and I think it is a brilliant idea. All I found was a reference to insect-repellant camouflage paint for soldiers who are squeamish about bugs. [+]

Damn. I should've given Google that extra ten seconds.

Now I have to say that those who know me will be familiar wih the fact that I am a big fan of the insect world, especially the much underated, but ever noble and constantly humble fly.

So...why not just have an "Insect Speckle Finish" paint range ?

You choose your colour, then your insect type, and when you brush it on, thousands of dried insects swell up slightly and rise to the surface of the paint, leaving a slightly textured finish that's also entirely pleasing to the eye.

This way you could have this type of conversation: "Yep - I'm having the bathroom re-done in common housefly, with a hint of lavender as a background tint."

I was going to put this up as my first "new" idea after a week's Bakery vacation, but this rather tame notion saves me the trouble by sheer coincidence. (sorry andrew1)

Yeah, its baked. I was painting a house some 10 years ago when I was faced with the same dilemma. I went back to the paint store and told the guy my problem. He gave me a bottle of this stuff to mix in with the paint and it worked.

Where have I heard that before?

hah! how to keep pet's paws out of wet cement?

//I read they are designed containing insecticide to kill insects when they land, a clearly different agenda than this idea proposes.//

You read the Pinturas link, what's it say?

How about something to keep my own damn ass out of the freshly painted surface when I turn around to pick up my tools and leave.
