According to the linked article, in-car air polution is quite serious even in closed vent situations.
Add built in ionizers into the ventilation systems of cars to reduce pollutants.

Bah - those things are virtually useless. Consumer Reports did a big thing about how its effectiveness didn't nearly justify the cost. |

Actually, I suffer from hay-fever type allergies... I'm telling you nay-sayers that these things DO work. I'm not speaking from reading a consumer report, I'm speaking from having tried them. The downside is that you really need about 3 in an average sized house. |

my volkswagen has a dust and pollen filter in the ventilation system. not ionic. i think a lot of new cars have these standard. |

You could map the controls so that the device does the exact opposite, or nearly exact opposite, action from what the controls says it will do. |
