Immersion blenders (also known as stick blenders, wand blenders, hand blenders or Bermixers) are handy for pureeing food. Unfortunately they tend to splatter small droplets out of the bowl.
I propose a shroud to be removably fitted onto the shaft of the immersion blender. The shroud would be made
of a transparent material (such as transparent silicone) so the food being pureed can be viewed. The shroud would either a) have a slit (with associated securing means) in the side so it could be placed onto the blender; or b) be flexible enough so that it could be pulled into place over the end on the blender. The shroud would be a semi-hemispherical shape wide enough to fit over the top of standard sized mixing bowls.

Could you expand on the mechanics of this thing? How can you move the blender up an down without loosing seal, if the shroud is over the bowl? |

Very useful if a blender dies on you. |

OK, so not a rather grisly way of disposing of the dead then? How disappointing [+]. |

There is no seal between the shroud and the bowl. Instead the shroud overhangs the bowls. Thus the blender can be moved up and down unimpeded. Sideways movement of the blender would be slightly impeded when the shroud hits the side of the bowl. The shroud could be conical (rather than hemispherical) to reduce this problem. |

I think a smarter move would be to redesign the blender
blades so that they throw stuff downward rather than upward
or outward. That would give you an inherently non-splattery
blender. |
