Make you own Jenga set with an ice cube tray where each 'cube' is the correct size for a Jenga block.
Simply fill up the tray with water - pop in the freezer. When you fancy a game of Ice Cube Jenga remove the blocks from the tray and hey presto.
The usual rules of Jenga would apply, but due to
the very low friction created between melting ice the tower would be very sensitive.
As the ice slowly melts, the tower would slowly change, making the "there's no way that one's coming out" block, that are ever so common in normal wooden Jenga, a thing of the past.
The surface the tower is built on would have to perfectly (or as near as) level, or the entire stack would start to move, and slide around.
Any knock or push in the wrong direction would be greatly exaggerated compared to the normal game.
In addition, it would also add a 4-dimensional element to the game, as time would also be a factor.
To prolong the game, the players could wear gloves (or sit in the freezer).

The ice blocks might fuse together which would make the game harder, or maybe I mean easier. |
Another great version of Jenga - have an iced bun. |
I don't think the ice-cubed jenga tower would stand for more than a couple minutes, which would only allow ONE game per set of jenga blocks. Still, [+] for creativity. |
tell me this isn't your first half-baked idea ? it's borderline genius [TopTim], I hope that you haven't blown all of your creative genius on this one idea : bring it on. |
Interesting concept, even though I agree with all the hoo-ha about the pieces sticking together. On second thought, that would make the game more interesting, get the tower as tall as possible before the ice cubes start melting and sticking to each other. I'm getting nervous already. |
By the way, welcome to the 'bakery, [TopTim]. |
What if the blocks were made to be the size of railroad ties? This might make teamwork a part of the game while increasing the danger factor. |
Is there a time limit in Jenga? Could one strategy be turning up the thermostat and waiting for all the ice to melt?
A less unsporting variation might be providing each player with a blowtorch, and have them torch holes in a big block of ice without it falling over. |
Blowtorch? Ha! If you want it done properly use a flame thrower! |
Yes, a flamethrower version could be used to play the game on an iceberg or glacier, but blowtorches would remain suitable for indoor versions of the game for those without asbestos skin/furniture. |
Oh, so you're talking on a much smaller scale, [tom]. I see. Well, I guess it'll still be fun. <beavis and butthead moment> Fire, fire, huh huh. <b&bm> |
I'd still vote for the iceberg version - they helicopter you in with a friend, leave you with a picknick, a bottle of champagne, 2 flamethrowers and enough fuel to keep you blasting away for the whole afternoon. |
You forgot to mention floating devices--probably a small boat--for when the iceberg is completely melted and you have nothing left to stand or sit on. Then you can do some whale watching while waiting for the helicopter to pick you up again. |
By the way, [tom], there's no time limit in Jenga. |
"They drop like dominoes
And if you didn't know, Ice Cube got drama hoes
So after the stackin
I topple em all and put on my white gloves
I'm out the do'
All you might get some water on the floor" |
Jesus Wept!!
From my drunken ramblings, you [zen_tom] have introduced a global game of annihilation, flame throwers and general death. |
Why not up the stakes - Liquid Nitrogen and Tactical (the small ones, lets not go over the top) nukes! |
Hey, don't look at me! Your idea is evidently one of an inspirational nature! Also, I have to defer the credit for flamethrowers to [Machiavelli], while two mates on an iceberg is hardly a global game of annihilation...and general death - still sounds like a lot of fun though.
Tactical nukes just aren't touchy feely enough for me - I want to see the ice yield to my firey touch, not have to imagine it vaporise from an airconditioned bunker located at a safe distance. |
I like. What about snowball Jenga. (For the outdoorsy type). Instead of snowmen, you could play Jenga balancing snowballs. All the neighbors would gather around whispering, "jenga, jenga, jenga", till a dog or squirrel came rushing by and knocked the tower over. What a wonderful idea. + |
Young whippersnapper shows much promise...(and the subtitle, perfect!) |
If played in a freezer, a good strategy would be to rub the touching surface of the piece you're about to place with your finger to melt it a bit, so it'll refreeze adhered in place. |
Or you could lick it...same effect, tongue sticks, extra points, I would think. |
I emailed the Jenga people about this, but they've yet to respond - no vision some people. |
