IPoV
Listen in on your network | |
We've all heard of voice over IP (VoIP) but has it really lived up to the hype? I think not. Instead, I propose a revolutionary inversion of that idea. IPoV, IP over Voice.
In Linux, for example, it would be relatively simple to connect a userspace daemon running a speech synthesizer and a speech
recognizer to a tun/tap virtual network interface. Then you would just need to pick a data <--> voice mapping. With simple versions the computers could simply say 'yes no yes no no yes' to each other.
More complex versions map bits to the probability of word pairings in Shakespearan plays, thus the machines talk to each other in dissasociated Bard (aka Shakespearean Markov Encoding).
Once you've got it going your computers with sound card, speakers and microphone can talk to each other in a shared medium (like Ethernet or WiFi). If you don't like the interference caused by a shared medium, chain your computers together with audio cables and you've got an acoustic token ring.

You'll need a compression algoritm maybe?
http://kbs.cs.tu-be...e/~jutta/toast.html Though, I doubt it was conceived as a means to achieve faster IPoV throughput. [half, Oct 04 2004]

What do you think the data trasfer rate
would be? About 2bps? |
|
|
No, it's measured in wps. Every couple years they come out with a voice that's twice as fast, for a fee. |
|
|
This reminds me of MaulTunnel (see
link) which allows you to tunnel any
network traffic through email messages
thus effectively routing around any
blocked ports on your
firewall.
This looks like a sort
of "VoiceTunnel". |

I think you should call this wonderful device "modem". |

What [Worldgineer] said. You can get the same effect loading programs off audio tape, as some of us were know to do in the late 1970's. |

I want it to say "supercalifragilistic" when it transmits a "0" and "expialidocious" when it transmits a "1". |
