Basic Version:
Mix hydrogen and oxygen gasses in a 2:1 ratio, burn this
mixture to produce steam, cool and condense the
steam, cool the resulting water until it's temperature
drops to about 50C, and use this as domestic hot water.
More Efficient Version:
Mix hydrogen and oxygen gasses
in a 2:1 ratio, burn this
mixture to produce steam, use a thermostatic mixing
valve to combine the steam with cold water to produce
hot water at about 50C, and use this as domestic hot
water.
The most important feature of this idea is that the
steam is artificial water. Contrast this idea to rcarty's
similarly named idea [link] which uses real, natural
water, which is then altered to seem hot.

[Bigsleep] I think your right,
must be controld or can you say boom. |

There are a number of chemicals that at first glance resemble water: ammonia, methanol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, dimethyl sulfoxide, heavy water, etc. Some of them are more viscous than water; some are less viscous --and most of them are toxic. |
|
|
I am reminded of an effort done some years back to find a substitute for the element mercury, which is toxic. They succeeded, an alloy named "galinstan", made from gallium, indium, and tin (stannum). |
|
|
I'm wondering if some mixture of chemicals might resemble water closely enough to fool the second glance, not just the first glance. At least heavy water and ethyl alcohol and dimethyl sulfoxide are fairly nontoxic in smallish amounts.... |

Perflubron and those other artifical blood molecules are pretty good water substitutes. |

I am thinking of goldbbs device as a huge power generator on Mars. A colonist puts a cup with tea bag under a spout, then fires up the whole enormous thing so she can have a sip of exhaust. |

So, this combination of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom is "artificial" exactly how ... ? |
|
|
It's like claiming that ethanol produced by controlled oxidation of ethane is somehow different than ethanol produced by decomposition of sugars by a yeast. |
|
|
I can't be doing with that artificial water, give me organic water any day. |
|
|
artificial: Displaying or characterized by artifice; artful, cunning. Certainly this would qualify. |
