It's Thanksgiving... Christmas has been coming since late September and now it's bearing down on us like a Mack truck heading for a possum.
My family has disbanded... My mom is dead and my dad has re-married. Everyone lives about 1800 miles from me.
The Holidays for me have become a time of
dread and sadness.
It is for this reason that I would like to suggest that the medical community develop a safe and reliable means of putting a person into a coma about 3 days before Thanksgiving, to be awakened after the first week of the new year.
This "Holiday Coma" would be useful to untold millions of people who are also weary during this time of year.

Let the hobbying commence! |

What, drinking yourself into a stupor isn't good enough for you? Well, drinking is actually a terrible thing to do this time of the year (or any other, for that matter.) So, this idea would be helpful. |
Still, there has to be something you can do now during the time you would be in a coma, had this idea existed. Like going on to the HB! Treat the holidays normally, and they might leave you alone. |
As a fellow bah-humbugger I sympathise, but you just have to keep your head down, chin up, and soldier on through the last quarter of the year. Make sure you're getting all the light you can. |
Yeah; light and exercise and very funny books, and if you can't find a book funny enough, write one. [+] |

Tell ya what [veryvermilion], I'm going to give you a bun for, //bearing down on us like a Mack truck heading for a possum.//, and think it probably should be marked for tagline, but... |

I find this funny and sad at the same time. What [2 fries] said above is correct. Even those of us who have our families would like to avoid the pressure of the holidays these days. Do you know how much it would cost if all of us wanted to be in a coma for all that time? People still need to watch you and feed you intraveneously, etc, etc. There would not be enough beds anywhere for all the bodies. While I would like to give you a bun, I'd rather send you a cyber-hug in hopes that you know there is always hope. {{hug}} |

Cheer up V V, Holiday bun for you. |
If you're unhappy with your social situation with regards to the holidays, get out there and start building a social group. |
Maybe start meeting some people on the web for starters, or go to community events. Spark up a friendship with a co-worker maybe. Get a girl or boyfriend. Maybe a pet. Might take a little work but all good things do. |
Plus look at all the buns from people you don't know sending you bun's-o-good cheer. That's something eh? |
Happy holidays V, and to all the other Halfbakers out there too. |
Frankly I'd want the coma to start about 3 days before Halloween, since that's when they go with the Xmas stuff around here. |
I wouldn't want it to last, but I would be
interested in some simple medication
which would knock you out more deeply
than alcohol or sleep. I'm curious to know
if, when you "reboot", you're likely to
return to the same mental state you were
in before, or a different one. |
Um, I had the stomach flu and gastritus all thanksgiving which was horribly awful!!! Hope that makes you feel better. |
I sympathise with your predicament, but people with loving families frequently put themselves into comas during holidays by using a substance called alcohol. not my idea of fun. |
When your feet fall asleep after being
crushed into an awkward position on a
long, crowded journey, is it ok to call
them comatoes ? |
Sorry, I'm just coming to, did I miss something? |
This was baked in Brave New World, where the people would take a drug called Soma and go on a Soma Holiday, where they would be blissfully comatose. |
I wonder if blisfully comatose is better then regular. |
blisfully herre...only if I could be transported by "www.carrymehome.com", would I even entertain such an idea. |
I love entertaining...ideas. Hula dancing, limbo contests, pictionary, Twister, etc... |
I was reading a thing on how a good way to curb crime is to take away only the extreme criminals and let the little ones go. |
This idea could only be applied in very very extreme depression cases. Which it is so, bun. |
This really kind of sad. Find something else to do with that time. Don't turn on the stupidbox that tells you the hols should be a certain way. The holidays are only as much of a pain in the ass as you let them be. |
