Two helicopters with pilots, contestants sitting on modified landing gear with really long lances. The loser parachutes to back to earth landing ashamed.

Not exactly the same... https://www.youtube...watch?v=XxxK2DW0lU8

I would wager that not only will the winner experience the same fate as the loser, but that there will be no parachuting involved.

A working lance would overbalance the 'copter: +though, nice image.
FlyingToaster, Nov 14 2014

The helicopters should be piloted by horses.

Why not do it with remote control helicopters?

Alternatively you could have chains trailing the choppers that they could try to swing around and tangle in the other guy's rotor.

       hahahahahah [+]

Radio-controlled aircraft sometimes tow long streamers behind them for "dogfighting". Pilots compete to get behind the other aircraft (simulating lining up a shot) and cut the other plane's streamers. The plane with the most streamer remaining is the winner.

This idea leads to all kinds of ill-advised alternatives:
- hang-glider jousting
- wingsuit jousting
- 747 jousting
- container ship jousting
- ICBM jousting
etc.

       Echo.

Although at least a couple of those would be entertaining. I think container ships have the most potential for televised events, with the contents salvaged from the containers that didn't sink going to the viewers.

//container ship jousting// funny but not fast enough. Think it would be boring.

Is there anywhere in the world where high speed rail has parallel opposing tracks? If so I think I have an appendage to this idea...

////container ship jousting// funny but not fast enough. Think it would be boring. //

You're aware of test Cricket, snooker, multi-week cycling events... the Le Mans 24hr race takes almost a whole day! I've watched the superbowl a few times and it took careful explanation to make me realize that the game was about the actions of the armored gentlemen and not the elderly men with the hats and chewing gum. People will watch anything. I'd watch container ship jousting.

" //container ship jousting// funny but not fast enough. Think it would be boring. "

In a world where people will watch both golf and elections, I don't think that will be a problem.

For inexpensive yet hilarious entertainment, we advocate mobility scooter jousting.
