Somewhat more of an announcement then an idea, I suppose. I think the idea title is self-explanatory, so if you want to join the webring, go to the link listed below. Obviously, this is my home page. Which, by the way, was just created a little less than two days ago. The webring navbar can be found
just a little ways down the page. Looking forward to seeing some 1/2bakers join the ring!

[PeterSealy] - Been reading any good books lately?
I shall mail jutta about this; right now, in fact. If she gets to this before she gets my message, then I ask her right here: |
[bristolz] Of course. Brainfart on my part. |
<Yay> Well, somebody joined. </Yay> |

I don't understand the purpose of this. There is only one halfbakery.com. Why create a web ring for one web site? |
I've given permission yesterday, and the links page now lists the webring site as one of the "spinoffs". |
The reason I would ever want to deny such a request in the first place is that I want it to be clear which things are made by the halfbakery and which things aren't. Since this webring truthfully identifies itself as a "halfbakery members webring", I don't see a problem with that.
I think it's comparable
to inglybinglydingly (the halfbakery users yahoo group), although it does lack the catchy name. |
The people who could have a problem would be other halfbakery members who don't like webrings, or don't like that particular webring, and don't like someone who's been at the site for about two months barging in, claiming to speak for all of them. |
In that case, I recommend you vote with your feet. If you want to somehow associate your website with the halfbakery, there's a "links" webpage that I'll pretty much put anyone on who links to the halfbakery and wants to be listed. |
Well, I certainly in no way ever intended to speak for all of the bakers, that's a given. I just thought it would be an interesting way for some of us to share our interests/websites, that's all. |
Thanks for permission, jutta. :) |

[waugs] I can understand where you're coming from. The purpose of the webring isn't to duplicate the 1/2B, just a place where people can quickly sort through other 'bakers pages. And yes, I know that many people list their addresses in their profiles, but this makes it slightly more convenient to go through those pages. |
This was intended in no way to usurp the 1/2B, sorry to everyone if it somehow looked that way at first. |
So now we'll be drawing in people who are so bored they have nothing to do but follow web rings around all day? What's wrong with a regular link? And shouldn't it be called the Half-Bakering? |
You are misunderstanding the purpose of the webring, I think. |
It is not to draw people to the halfbakery at all. If people do happen to get here somehow because of it, that's fine and dandy. But that's not the purpose. |
The purpose is just to allow 1/2B members to easily navigate through one another's pages with having to pull up everyone's profiles and then follow links. Nothing special, just a webring. |
Nice name suggestion, but I'm not going to bother changing it now, because I think I'd have to delete the ring and do it all over again. |
Now we can be even more self-absorbed than we already are. And they said it wasn't possible! :o) |
