In addition to posting text annos, record what you're saying (your actual voice) in a soundbyte so somebody clicks on a link and hears what you have to say.
Not everybody has a microphone or compatible equipment. No problem, you still post text annos, but if you have the right equipment/software,
the
option for voice-recording is available.
So if you have the capability to play soundbytes, you read it first, then listen to the poster actually saying it so you know what tone and context is intended.
If you don't have the capability, you're not losing anything you don't currently have because you still read the text like normal.

There would seem to be plenty of room
in the oven for this. So long as the
annotating party has hosting room and
bandwidth for the compressed audio,
all that he/she must do is add a link to
it.
Of course the problem then becomes
how to match up the link with audio to
a particular annotation. So let me
propose a more generic solution: Add
metadata to annotations.
When annotating an idea, the user may
add links to media files. If the link is an
image, the annotation would provide a
thumbnail linked to the image. If the
link is audio, it would provide a
handsome embedded player control.
And why not allow video too?
Of course, the halfbakery is not a media
burlesque house, so users would not be
uploading the files; they are responsible
for supplying their own hosting. |
Interesting, but what if bakers who have a fine written style turned out to have annoying voices? Who would tell them? |

Calum has a great radio voice! :)

Fishrat did something like this a few years back. |

Thanks to the admin for putting this in a better category.

You know, I had a lady tell me I have a great radio voice on the phone yesterday. It was the first time anybody's said that, I would have never thought of my voice as radio-quality. |
I've been told I've got a great radio face. Hmmm.... |
In what spirit was *that* comment delivered, jtp? |
Sounds like it. Cheers, mate! Don't let an asshole get you down. |
How could one have a great radio voice on the phone, I would say she was lying. But hay don't let this asshole get you down. |
Well she might have been lying, probably was :-(
But she sure had a great chat-line voice.... |

So you do have a sense of humor? + |

Record to Vocaroo or similar and post a link? |
A problem is that people are generally more willing to read text that's right there on the page, and be able to read their own pace or skim, than they are to click a link, apply headphones if necessary, and sit still while listening for a fixed amount of time to a voice they might find annoying. |

Also, kinda redundant with [igirl]'s AVHB (also in this category). |
