A pretty simple idea, really: a collection of everyone's first post, for comparison or nostalgia.
Feel free to re-post yours here, if you can find/remember it.
I may reserve the right to get rid of chatty posts (perhaps leaving them a day or so), as ideally I think it should be a mute testament
to that first moment, the first teetering step...

first anno: Sims-esque iconic thought-bubble Film Noir first idea: Numerical Range Clothes Sizing current thoughts: I really need to get out more. |
I think my first anno was on an idea about putting emergency information (blood type etc) on mobile phones. I rabbitted on about bluetooth as if no-one would have heard of it.. |
My two oldest survivors are:
"My personal anti-favorite is the falling hero "catching up" with an aeroplane which starting 5 seconds earlier, a la goldeneye.. (especially when the aeroplane's rotors are running... i mean, jeez!)"
and
"The problem is that, were you to seal them within the keyboard, you would miss out on the useful cleaning function they provide..." |
My very first annotation was either: brand-name children; trick-or-treat proxy robots to collect candy for you from the proxy robot distributors standing in for busy but generous candy dispensing types; or the baud rate of a homing pigeon network. |
I think I happened across the site while doing "research" at Ford on google. Ended up spending a good hour just reading and giggling. (It's a good thing my cube was sortof in a far corner then).
I was so tickled I had to post something the same day. Didn't spend much time lurking beforehand. |
stu, I happen to know which date was my first day here, and once I've sorted by things I've annotated to, I just use my browser to search for that month, since I've been here under a year. |
Think my first idea was 'mosquito-spread immunization.' Back when I thought I had to come up with serious ideas... |
My first idea was "web scorefiles," back in May 2000. No idea what my first annotation was. |
My first post was the idea for "Rambo House." Note the 1.5 fishbones as well as the cocky tone in the text. I'm not sure, but I think the first annotation might have been there... probably elsewhere... |
But this brings up a question: would it be possible to view the halfbakery as it appeared on a specific day? Maybe if you kept going back far enough in the "previous day" you'd be able to recover at least a couple of ideas as they appeared on a certain day... How about a HB Restore feature? |
I remember bliss's arrival, and the relief of 9-11 when PS logged on, and the horror he described to us. |
Can't even begin to remember how I ended up here, but I know I found it about 2 months before I actually joined. I read some of it but didn't mark it, and took 2 months or so to go looking for it again. After that, I was captured and can't break free. No matter how hard I try. ;-) |
Actually, the first time I found it, I'm pretty sure I joined. But, by the time I found it again, I couldn't remember what name I may have joined under. |
Sometimes I wish jutta would post a big list of usernames...if I saw the name, I'd probably recognize it as my own especially if it fit into the time frame I remember. Then, I'd just have to remember the password. |
Susen - see link
I believe my first idea was simply a bottle labeled *boiling water* - for those who are deeply confused/anal retentive when they read instructions on pasta packages: "add boiling water" - and trek off to the store to find some. 1st comment on that now-deleted idea was "C'mon thumbwax - you can do better than that - at least I hope so." Second idea was for Parking Space Increaser - which remains. |
I remember my first post. It was in April, 1962, back in those days you had to mail them in and wait three weeks for the paper to be sent out. You kids have it so easy these days. |
ATV mall tag, it was, if I recall correctly. |
My first annotation was on 'Chilli Rater' (Jan 2). I talked
about habanero peppers and posted a link for a recipie
involving them. |
My first idea was Airplane Vending Machines (also Jan 2). I
think I was lurking from ~Nov/Dec 01. |
Panic PIN is the idea that, via a search, led me to this site. |
First post was a link on "Power screwdrivers". |
First annotation was on "Colored Contrails". |
I was led to the site years ago, after hearing the address read out on Radio 1. I read, laughed, then went. The first idea I read was 'dig up the earth's core'. That impressed me. Then, this May (3 months ago today actually - 'Happy Anniversary' may be in order...), I joined. My first post was a migration of my idea 'Solar-Powered Rocket Cow' from my very own website. That's not here any more, though: I deleted it earlier today (see profile for more info'). |
My first idea was the "Venus Cat Trap". Can't recall my first annotation. |
My first idea was the astoundingly-popular "refrigerated pillow", which I posted after a few days of lurking. As far as I know, my first annotations were on that as well, as it took me a little while to pluck up the courage to annotate someone else's ideas. |
My first annotation was actually under another alias on the Classic Three Way Hockey idea. I rejoined with new alias. Can't remember what first anno was but first idea was Anti-phone shield. |
Whilst pruning the off-topic annos on this post I accidentally deleted this one (sorry thcgenius): |
I think my first post was something ranting about spoilers on the rear of front wheel drive cars... sorry about that, guys. The rest is fuzzy, damn short term memory loss. |
I was thinking I've not been around long enough to contribute here, but it's almost a couple of months now, with a couple of years lurking. Even so, I can't remember the first anno. First idea was that wonderfully underrated idea - Travelator Golf. It's still not too late to throw pastry at this idea, folks. |
Although I deleted my account previously I think my first idea was "Save Whale using Sea Monsters", which involved breeding sea monsters to fight whalers. |
PeterSilly: If you're new, there's all the more point to posting here, as you'd be more likely to remember your first posts. This is especially true if you hope to stay here for a long time, which I hope is the case ;op |
Bright Idea Hat, April 11, 2001. God help me. (First idea: what a fool, I do believe I posted an idea before I anno'ed anything.) |
Wow. What a trip through the wayback machine. My first idea was for a split keyboard (deleted, thank you), which is thoroughly baked, and I was quickly edjum'cated into the ways of the 'bakery. I can't remember my first anno, but I seem to recall being soundly trounced by egnor, which I now regard as an honor. |
An anno on the idea "CMTV - Ceiling Mounted Television." 01 Oct 2000. |
I got soundly trounced by [egnor] sometime after that. |
I deleted my first invention idea and don't remember what it was but it may have been "Concept Corrector." |
After keeping a low profile for two weeks, I posted "Anti-Graffiti painter" on Mar 12 2002, and I just noticed it was annotated again today. The 4+ made me feel like I'd won a lottery. |
I posted my first idea and then annotated. T'was giant etchasketch back in summer of '02. |
I also posted berfore annotating. First anno - now we'll be able to halfbake from the tub. First posting - Color Magnadoodle. |
My first idea was the "license plate disguiser", on Jun 26 2000; Seems my first annotation was for "alarm clock on wheels", posted the following day. Seems even then I was making apparently non-culturally specific references to "football" :P. |
I disappeared for a while, soon thereafter, but was eventually drawn back into the fold -- not long after introducing the prolific (but fleeting as of late) [absterge] to the HB. |
My first idea was the trash train, I think - I posted a few on my first day. First anno was on the Margaret Thatcher Waste Disposal unit, I think. |
Now now, duvet days weren't technically my idea, I merely transported them to the school environment. |
My first posted idea was [http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Hankeyboard] |
After a long while lurking, my first anno was "baked: see link" for an idea which has since been removed (can't quite remember what it was) |
First idea "Solar Cities" <deleted> about putting solar panels on all buildings in a city to assist in power generation. It was quickly met with a "baked: see link" |
Perhaps it is apt that this is my first anno. |
hello thod, I have always been ashamed that I cannot remember. |
+1 yama for you know what! |
I can't quite remember either ... I bet it was lame, though. |
mfd - list! only kidding :) |
The first one I remember was too long to post here, so I've linked. I might have anno'd a [blissmiss] idea before that, but I'll never know for sure. |
First day, first idea, first anno: see link |
Aha! Found it. My first remaining annotation was on Aural Traffic Camera. I'm guessing that it's my first, since it's on the day I joined; there could be others from that day that have long since disappeared. |
Just a question:
What is *the* oldest idea on the Halfbakery? I know I could probably frig around with search page but since it's really complicated, I'm scared I might hurt myself. |
Well it's interesting that you ask that question at this particular time. It's one that's often asked but the answer has recently changed. I'm not going to tell you what it is though. Do your own research you lazy so-and-so! |
It's all about the ideas, not the people. |
Still [+] for nostalgia. It gets me every time. |
I joined the halfbakery the day after I accidently found it. My first post was Restless Leg Syndrome Dance Club. I was afraid to anno for quite awhile, so cannot remember what it was when I finally got up the nerve and also figured out how the site worked. |
perhaps carbon nanotube rings, incredible light and strong...

[edit, delete] |
Annoed on Bussiness suit of armor i think |
Well, my first anno was on the idea "Accelerated Ion Engine." Here's a clip: |
//DS1's engine provided 4.5 km/s^2 of acceleration (still does, I guess) with Xenon gas and a solar panel, which comes out to about 10k MPH added per hour. Escape velocity is 27k MPH, right? So could ion drives (and 2 hours and 42 minutes of patience) be used to toss an object, or a crew, into space?// |
And my first idea was titled "Flatulence Reodorizer." Still among my favorites, I must admit. |
It's been so long. I remember my first idea, though. The "A-Gun". Still not looking too good. Oh well. At least it didn't get swarmed with "A-Team" references. I realized that when I wrote it, by the way. |
aphorism game show.
Went missing during the 2004 crash, then as if by magic reappeared via the wayback machine. |
I used to be someone else, but i left just before the 2004 crash. I can't remember my first annotation, but my first idea as [nineteenthly] was Mobius Zips. My first idea as someone else was Compulsory Car Park Confiscation. |
I found this place when i started Googling for various ideas and found this site kept coming up, so i eventually decided i was destined to be here. |
The oldest idea on the halfbakery seems to have been the one about scraping ice off windscreens with 3.5" floppies, dating from some time in 1996, before this place started. |
I think my first idea was a guide to free public day storage. It should have quickly gone 2.5 buns. But didn't. (I've never gotten over the shame.) |
My first ever idea - see link - very rapidly attained the coveted 2.5 croissant status. Don't ever let anyone tell you that it's impossible for a newbie to post a well received idea. |
I fail to see how this will survive the "MFD: List" declaration, but until that happens, OK, I happen to have two that were originally posted on the same date, July 1, 2000. I don't know which of "Calculators" or "SCSI Controllers" was actually posted first. |
For links, click my name below, and then examine the alphabetical list for those two items. Since I don't expect this page to survive, I see no reason to add links above. |
For amusement, of anyone looking through my list of Ideas, note that only one ever acquired 2.5 buns. (A few have 2 buns, and one can hope, that if more people read them....) |
exploding cows or something... |
[Vernon], this page is over seven years old. It could get deleted though. |
Something else which would interest me is how many ideas have been in people's minds waiting to be submitted before this site existed, and what's the oldest idea in that sense. |
My first was very circa 911 era. A giant world pillow
like thing, that everyone could be wrapped in, to
ease their sorrow. Not suitable for the bakery, and
yes, I got blasted from all sides. There was no mercy
then, as there is now. |
I'm trying to recall if i knew of this place back then. The problem is that i was someone else. I'm pretty sure i used it when i was on dial-up, which would take it back to around that time. I also lurked for a very long time. |
I actually vaguely remember coming across this site in about 1998-1999 sort of time, but I didn't stick around. |
On my second visit I was hooked, and signed up straight away. |
//Something else which would interest me is how many ideas have been in people's minds waiting to be submitted before this site existed// |
Most of mine were up until a couple of years ago. There are still a few I haven't posted from back before I found this place. |
First post: either Blood Glucose Indicator Tattoo, or PC Vinyl Burner. |
Correction: those are the first surviving posts. I do recall some genetically engineered benchtop miniature dairy cows that didn't fare so well. |

// I second absterge's comments - why keep the humming laser fun for the non-functional end of the brush? Gargle with a dye that is absorbed by plaque and scunge, and not by teeth, and then go at your mouth with a high-powered laser. Minty megawatt freshness. // |

August 25, 2002 - a strangely orally fixated day. And I just noticed this very thread began twelve days prior. Huh. |
