My first thought was to
Dedicate A Haiku Day
But the time is past

The fifth of July
The year two thousand and five
Would have been ideal

< 5/7/5 >

Although to you yanks
sadly the seventh of May
Would have had to do.

So I say we just
Name a week, <and shame the weak>
So, what do you say?

       Does 5/7/5 give
.14 or 3.5?
Does anyone care?
Ling, May 23 2008

This shouldn't be a halfbakery thing. This should be an international holiday.

       English too compact.
five-seven-five syllables:
it is too verbose.

I prefer the spirit of the Japanese way. The spirit of haiku is to force the author to use only the really important parts of what he has to say. The above haiku would be properly written (despite syllable count)

English compact
consider carefully.
use few words.

phundug, Nov 11 2008

       Author wants something

       To be more widely practiced.

       This is called "let's all".
