To solve all debates, sticking points and flame wars.

Under 'meta' a link would say 'duel.' And arguing bakers can have a 'best of how many ya like' paper, scissors stone shootout.' A results table would be included for public baker browsing.

A flash game? On the 'bakery? Are you quite mad?
calum, Dec 01 2004

Could it be implemented in nice clean text, or with minimal bakery-style graphicery?

       where's the meat?

       Wrapped in paper, po.

Yeah I thought the flash game thing would raise a few eyebrows, but I think we should reclaim flash games for the tasteful, minimilists amongst us.

has anyone played 'bowman' its a nice example. <Link>
etherman, Dec 01 2004

Like the simplicity of bowman - but I definately like the idea of a minimal RPS game, and have linked some (poorly scrawled) small 25x25 greyscale + transparency RPS gifs that could be used in an implementation of this idea - or not.

Custard, Ninja, Mime, Onion, Explosion, Fillet Steak or other HB themed variations of the traditional RPS game could be fun too.
zen_tom, Dec 01 2004

How would you implement that as a web-page? You could prepare a list of quotes and test the ones input for a match, but that would mean they would have to be spelled exactly, and keeping the list up-to-date and meaningful would not be an easy task.

Not that a real-time (or even a turn-based, or forced synchronisity) duel would be easy to implement.

Perhaps after a dual is initiated by one or other of the participants, each is asked to enter one or more RPS values - these values are queued up and only processed and displayed once the other person has entered their own sequence of RPSs. Once processed, the results are tallied, and the scores published.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
normzone, Dec 01 2004

That would work, but you'd need to gather enough people around at exactly the same time (especially your opponent) - which would be difficult. Once the duel is on, you could type in "asdfsd adfasdt lkjgfhkj retsdgfg" and the system would assume you'd entered a quote.
You might get the points, but your adversary and any spectators would likely consider you as someone without honour.

How is my second going to deal with it if I am dishonored? [link]
normzone, Dec 01 2004

I'm not sure, but according to the rules, they might have to type "fhwgads ghahdsmf idojoig asdfoe" at right angles to the screen, or something.
zen_tom, Dec 01 2004

That would appear to violate Rule 13:

Rule 13. No dumb shooting or firing in the air is admissible in any case. The challenger ought not to have challenged without receiving offense; and the challenged ought, if he gave offense, to have made an apology before he came on the ground; therefore, children's play must be dishonorable on one side or the other, and is accordingly prohibited

I guess we'd have to go by the closing note:

[N.B. All matters and doubts not herein mentioned will be explained and cleared up by application to the committee, who meet alternately at Clonmel and Galway, at the quarter sessions, for that purpose]
