I never imagined it would be edible.

This would allow you to report things on the map like dead skunks, cannabis retailers, or cattle trucks so folks have a chance to roll up their windows, switch their AC to recirculation mode (this does actually help mitigate road smells quite a bit) or divert around it.

       Farmland would be permanantly brown.

Do smartphones nowadays not already come with smell sensors? Then the results could be automatically scraped and fed back to the server

This should show nice smells too. I grew up near a large coffee-roasting and grinding place, which often smelt amazing over an area of several nearby streets. I now live near a brewery which gives a large area of town a delicious malty aroma on days when they're brewing.

I like that. Same with bakeries (heh), pine forests, etc.

[hippo], I get that from Stone here in Escondido - what's your brewery?

This should go further than allowing inputs - there should be updates - "There is an older vehicle whose engine is burning oil five minutes ahead of you".

       Yes! Like the cattle truck!

If you left your phone in your back pocket all day it would think the entire city had been hit by a mild biological weapon.

Let me introduce you to the odours of Chilliwack BC.
The sound of silage.

You have no idea, Rayford. I'm a cabbie!
