I always thought they should make a mouse-type device, which was actually a glove- moving your hand would move the mouse, and grabbing would click or whatever. The pointer could even be replaced with a virtual hand. This would be great for games like Black and White.
Also you could have on on the
other hand as well, and use a virtual keyboard- which would cut laptops down to just a screen (and drives, etc.) It might take some getting use to but would be really awesome.

Baked for a while, though the
resolution isn't generally good
enough to replace keyboard and mouse. |

Some friends and I have been discussing this... this is what we came up with:
-elastic bands around your wrist and your palm w/velcro
-semiflexible band attaching the two with the computer chip
-semiflexible bands protruding from the back of your hand attached to individual "finger sockets"
-how far out these bands protrude can be changed
-acceleration and tilt sensing chips to detect movement
-twisting your wrist could be another input
-the bands would have stress sensors to detect when a finger is pressed
-a wire prodrudes from the back which goes to the computer usb port |
|
|
-the setup program will let you completly customize it
how far you have to "press" a finger
-what happens when you press groups of fingers (grabbing could be cut and paste...)
-there would also be different setups for different programs (like the FF Sidewinder Controller)
-some people using autocad could zoom in/out by tilting your hand
-other people could tilt their aircraft in a flight sim
-wireless would work much better, but also make it heavier |
|

Hope I haven't left anything out... |

I was really hoping this would be about fingermouse... |

Having toruble with Black and white? You and me both - do what I did and get a Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander. Feels quite natural, actually. But I gave up on BW - I just never felt like I could get into it - strange concept and all... |
