The phrase 'crumpled heap' comes to mind.

Geese, at least, have historical precedent. http://ancienthisto...livy/qt/Livy547.htm

Can't we just grow more of them?

what are the eagles expected to do exactly? pigeons are probably cheaper...
po, Jul 14 2011

They have very good vision. They could spot crossers and, idk, caw towards the control station.
daseva, Jul 14 2011

hmm... ya got what 10,000mi of border and there's maybe 4 bald eagles left in the wild... those are gonna be some tired birdies.
FlyingToaster, Jul 14 2011

giant UAV ornithopter bald-eagle border patrol.
FlyingToaster, Jul 14 2011

I live in the wilderness and have encountered bald eagles frequently, so please believe me when I tell you that they are DUMBER THAN DOGSHIT. I've seen 'tamed' eagles trained to catch a scrap of meat in mid-air, but that's one of the things they do naturally anyway. You'd have better luck trying to train a rhinocerous to perform this task. George W. Bush could do this better than an eagle; that's how dumb bald eagles are.

they're just playing with you - birds are smarter than halfbakers ...
po, Jul 14 2011

Bald eagles are off the endangered list so there are plenty around, but yes, there are severe limits to raptor trainability. Even the hunting birds are minimally trained and frequently go feral.

You'd be better off trying to convince geese or swans to nest all along the border. Their natural territoriallity will go a long way to keeping people out (those birds will hurt you).
