Güber
Inexpensive, unlicensed mechanics who probably won't break your car | |
"Uber" for car owners.
- battery boosts
- roadside tire repairs
- fuel delivery (up to 5 gallons)
- shovelling out of snowdrifts, pulling out of ditches
- tow services (home or garage) that can be satisfied with a rope and a tire
- driveway/parking-lot oil-changes, fluid fill-ups,
light power-washes, etc
- drive you and car home from the bar, dentist's, etc
- discount on immediate personal transport bundled with other services.
Just guys/gals with nothing better to do making a few bucks.
Güber operatives can be easily recognized by their distinctive "whoopee caps".

Sounds like Craigslist - many of these services can be found advertised there, or if you offer appropriate compensation in the correct area of the service a respondent will contact you almost immediately. |
|
|
It would be better if it were a member-to-member service, i.e. both parties have a minimum level of technical vehicle skill and knowledge, but have just been "caught out" by circumstances. |

My dad's church sponsors a 'CARS' ministry in which volunteer
mechanics, a few of which are actually mechanics and most of
which are just guys with shop tools, donate their time to fix
cars of people who can't afford it otherwise. They have some
stipulations so as not to put the mechanics out of business. |
|
|
To support the ministry and buy parts, they sell donated cars
that are also fixed up to the general populace. |

There are mobile tire change services that bring a tire-
change truck to your home and change your car's tires right
there. But I think they're usually a bit more professional and
less giggy than Uber. |
