Fuel pumps that have a compressed air supply fed to them, and an extending hose for inflating tyres.
Drivers would not need to move to another location on the forecourt to top up tyre pressures.
Water and air service points were integrated into the pump "islands" on old-style "full-serve" stations,
but have now disappeared almost entirely.

This is the sort of small, smart and cheap thing the
government could be doing. You can whine at
manufacturers all you like about efficiency, but 4
tires 10psi below ideal will ruin fuel economy and
handling. Legislate that fuel sales require
compressed air and window washing equipment
and then check such things at MOT time/pulling
people over for general dodgyness. |
