FroBall

Basketball + Moving Basket = FroBall

FroBall is basketball with a moving basket. The basket is mounted on a track with bearings and a motor. The track is straight and extends the width of the court. The entire basket structure slides back and forth along the track at a predetermined frequency.

The three-point line would no longer be a curve, but a straight line across the width of the court at about where the apex of the current three-point lines are.

You always shoot free-throws from the key (which is static and in the same place as regular basketball), but the basket stops moving where the foul is called. If you get fouled when the basket is in the corner, you shoot from the key to the corner.

Slam-dunks work the same as always.

It is called FroBall because the basket moves to-and-fro across the court. This is to liven up a fairly monotonous sport.

Just one single basket. Use an RFID ring on each player and a reader in the ball to detect which player touched the ball last. That players team scores. (I'm currently into this RFID thing)

I was anticipating some sort of sport where having an afro hair-do would be required....
X2Entendre, Aug 21 2003

Or the ball was covered in an afro-like something or other.

Fro the ball! Fro it here! (waves arms in air)

Oh, I thought this was FrodoBall; the basket height adjusts to the height of the player with the ball.

Thanks Cedar, you made me laugh at 8.15am. Not an easy thing to do.

Instead of the players running across the court and the basket stationary, why not have the baskets run back and forth across the court and the players stationary?

[phundug], I didn't know the players got stationary. Why don't they ever write?

I like the RFID idea. I propose a single basket that circles around the whole court. This could make the shot clock a lot more pressing.
