Fizz: CCS Plan B
Repurpose uneconomic carbon-capture-and-storage infrastructure. | |
It looks as though the economics of Carbon Capture and Storage are not stacking up as well as once hoped. (I'm not working in the field myself, but I know this bloke, see...) Anyway, suppose that, before funding was cut off, we'd got as far as building some underground pipes to take CO2 away from power
stations. What if, with the last of the money in the kitty, we just re-directed those pipes into convenient aquifers, so that nearby consumers of water could have have carbonated water coming out of their taps?
The dilute carbonic acid might shorten the useful life of all their plumbing, but in the meantime they could close their eyes and imagine they were bathing in champagne.

The capture part is from power stations, as per standard CCS. The source is unchanged. We're just switching the destination. |

Can't we just make the oceans fizzy and hope nobody
notices? |

This sounds more like capture and re-release than capture
and storage. |

Well, it works for anglers. |
