Firemelon
Melons are closer to fruits than veggies. | |
We could introduce genes from a chili plant into a watermelon to get it to produce capicum (the spice in chili plants) so the watermelon would be spicy. Great on a cool day.
Maybe we could also introduce a gene that makes the red, too. So you can tell it's a firemelon.

Before anyone m-f-d's it for genetic magic, remember that this is just another genetically modified food, which they have in abundance. Not science magic. |
(Actually, I think this one passes the magic test, even though you are talking about GM: you are reasonably specific in your suggestion, rather than just waving a magic wand at a melon to make it spicy.) |
I'm gonna vote against this. Spicy food is good, but spicey liquids dripping down my chin like melon juices sounds like a bad idea. |
How is this better than fruit salsa? |
What about wind and earth melons? I don't want to eat the wind melon. |
Fire bad! This is good. + |

Not magic GM, true. But boring GM nonetheless. Anyone can do it. Hey, let's introduce genes that make melons blue and, um, taste like prunes. Yeah. |
Why not just eat slices of watermelon with Tabasco on them? Or take a bite of a pepper whenever you bite into the melon.
I'm not gonna spend twice as much on a genetic freak-fruit just to have it come to life in the middle of the night and try to suffocate me in my sleep. Sorry. |

Homeopaths call the chemical 'capsicum'. Homeopaths are not human. The chemical responsible is a crystalline alkaloid generically called capsaicin. The second 'c' is silent, or soft, depending on where you went to school. |
Bun from me [DF] because I already use chilli and salt on my watermelon to zing it up - would prefer your GM, convenient alternative. |

Somewhere below Phys. Ed. teachers - at least they need qualifications. |

[zanzibar] Mushrooms are fruits?? |
Been smoking too many, methinks. |
Zanzibar, I hope you realize NONE of the above are fruits, and not even all are vegetables.
You either had a lobotomy or deserve one. And by the way... If Nick Cave has Bad seeds does that make him a bad fruit? |
