Fine Art, Thin Crust

Made by machines, enjoyed by man ...

I've seen a pizza-born recreation of the Mona Lisa. I've seen beautiful landscapes expressed in peperoni and Italian sausage. And I'd like it in 30 minutes. This would entail a specialty pizza franchise equipped with mechanical topping sorting and placing machines. Machines with a template for many modern works of art. Each delivery region would have a different spread of art to choose from. Either call-in or order online, a spittin' image of the Virgin Mary depicted with extra cheese and olives. Delivered hot and fresh in 30 minutes or so. Delivery drivers can dress to their taste as artists, classical or modern alike.

Inspired by lunch, no doubt... Now I'm getting hungry, but in a very artistic kind of way. +

I have some leftovers, and you're more than welcome to them ...

       garlic bread?
po, Jan 21 2004

I find your art simply ravishing +
theircompetitor, Jan 21 2004

[po] Of course, garlic bread. Maybe buffalo wings soon too ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 21 2004

Buffalo wing sculpture. Ooh this could be hot!
k_sra, Jan 21 2004

Fort, sculpture - thats the magic word to her heart!
po, Jan 21 2004

Is it "sculpture" or "buffalo wings"?
Letsbuildafort, Jan 21 2004

Someone needs to help me out here.
Did we ever have an idea called 'Pizzart'?.
I swear blind that [po] put a link up to a pizza with a face on it but I can't remember. I also think that colourblindness came in somewhere.
Can't find a thing about it now. Hmmmm!

Like I said, I've SEEN it done before. Just make a specialty pizza chain that puts out various art creations on-demand.
Letsbuildafort, Jan 21 2004

       I'm digging it.

But I don't think the mechanical topping sorting and placing machines are necessary. There are so many passable artists in the representational arena (underemployed ones at that!) There might be some training required but like flower arranging close enough is probably good enough for the business to work.

In the machine-less version I am pitching there would be room for the occasional superstars to breakout in the pizza decorating arena perhaps at the annual DecoPizza Festivals? Which reminds me, this needs a name...

       Frameizza Artizza! Nope... Anyone else?

Boxes should have frames printed on them with option to bust out the center of the box for presentation. Alternately the crust should get a frame like treatment.

The one downside I can think of is the shapes of the pieces. The conventional folks will not like the crazy angles square and rectangle pizzas would get cut into. But to that I say, "Screw 'em!" </ obligatory self-promotional reference to Helical Pizza>

Someone color smart should list a bunch of standard ingredients in color wheel mode for reference,
DadManWalking, Jan 21 2004

Bravo, DadMan ... all good points ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 21 2004

How about the Mad Magazine version of this - you devour the center pieces of pie, colapse the two ends together and reveal the secret picture.
1st2know, Jan 21 2004

Don't worry [lbaf], I'm with you. I just thought I remembered something about a pizza with a face on it. +
gnomethang, Jan 22 2004

       See link, [gnome].
k_sra, Jan 22 2004

Or make your own Mona Lisa Pizza. Like paint-by-numbers, only with pepperoni and onions ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 22 2004

Ta, [k_sra]. I thought that I was losing it for a minute!. I must have missed it on my pizza trawl last night!.
gnomethang, Jan 22 2004

Can i get a pizza portrait of my nemesis and eat him?
whatastrangeperson, Jan 22 2004

With food coloring in the chease, you could do this on chease pizzas!
my-nep, Jan 22 2004

(Gnomethang) I thought is was a Farmer John idea.
sufc, Jan 22 2004

I suppose eventually, the technique would come along to upload your picture online and have it made into pizza ... for an extra fee, of course ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 22 2004

Nice, lbaf. I especially like the self-portrait twist.

Selling them could get a little aggressive, though. "You want a pizza me?"

Or - "I ate his face with extra olives and a fine chianti."
lostdog, Jan 22 2004

Pizzas will come uncut. Freedom to have pizza pieces just as abstract as your piping hot pizza masterpiece - and so conventional radial cutting doesn't distort the image ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 22 2004

I dont know how well art and food go together. but it sounds good! +
nomadic_wonderer, Jan 26 2004

Mmmmm... great art you can eat. (Hey, there's the slogan!)

"I'll have a 12" of Picasso's 'Guernica', and a 10" of anything by Escher. And make it snappy I'm parked on a double yellow."
stupop, Jan 27 2004

Limited time offerings of Ben Frost artwork at a special price. All unconsumed portions must be catapulted unto brick-faced buildings until protested by local officials.
