I heard of somebody denouncing Santa Claus because it's lying to kids. My feeling is Santa Claus gives an important lesson, you can be given misinformation, not everything you hear is true. Sort of a "Welcome to the real world kids!" initiation.
Having a sort of "lie lottery" in the news goes against
everything that news outlets purport to be, trustworthy purveyors of truth. LOL, but seriously, back to the idea.
I believe this would make news shows much much much more interesting, add a little fun and carry with it a lesson: "You're listening to humans convey information and you're a human to, so let's accept that, calibrate our ability to think critically and have a little fun."
"In tonight's news, work continues on the new highway 64 bypass, the Christmas festival set a record for attendance and we take a tour of the infamous Area 51! What secrets will we find? Stay tuned!"
"Okay folks, thanks for watching, tonight's baldface lie is we're going to tour Area 51, get a life. 'Night Jane! 'Night Bob!"

Mr. Claus was guilty of billions of cases of breaking and entering, illegal border crossing, petty theft (of cookies, if you can believe it) gun running, smuggling, bribery, violations of privacy, and violating federal airspace just to get started. Then there's his North Pole slum and sweatshop. This is all just last year! How long are we going to let this go on? Is there rule of law or is there not? |
