My grandmother, though usually educational in her choice of gifts, occasionally has flashes of brilliance. I submit this evidence: she suggested that she knit me an eight-foot black and white scarf lined with silk. I think it was me, but it might have been her that further suggested she embroider Star Wars pictures in the 12" by 12" squares.

I think that film buffs would pay some good money for knitted items embroidered with line drawings from their favorite films. Since it's a rather specialized business, it would work best as a website.

I like the idea; I wonder if there could be a more general idea of allowing custom knit-on-demand products. I know embroidery-on-demand is pretty common; I don't know what knitting machines would be capable of.

[supercat]--sounds good. Grandma and I discussed the actual design of the scarf extensively. No reason that that shouldn't be a feature of the business.

And no, I'm not going to try and recruit Grandma as free labor, nor shall I set up a knitting business--just in case it sounds like I am.
